I haven't told everyone what to do, Bruce. And because I've only just joined doesn't make my opinions any less valid. I've made suggestions hoping to keep this thing alive. Why should that bother you? I'm sure many others want this to happen just as much as I do.

@DB8088: it has nothing to do with a vote. Each buyer will have to decide if they trust the "GBer" enough to send them the money. I don't have anything personal against any of the candidates but that's a lot of money to me and I'm not willing to send to a member I don't trust. IMHO everyone should take caution, this is a >7000USD GB and people have scammed many members around here for far less than that.

I'd really like to go forward with the GB but I'm not doing that unless a trusted vet takes over.

Bruce, no problem, Sir! I was only trying to motivate and keep the GB going., peace my friend. Atom, I understand now, thank you. I agree completely with regard to the GBer being one of strong reputation and even experience running a GB before. I worked for a law Firm for 8 yrs and when I first learned of these GBs I was shocked at the trust involved, but also overwhelmed by the trust. It's a rare and worthy thing. I value your words and want this GB to go through, I hope you don't mind if I follow your lead.

I need to work out finances but if I can scrape up the cash I may be able to take wannaburnstuff's spot in the GB and then take it over. I'm pretty busy with school now too but I could swing it if the members wouldn't mind a few small delays along the way when I'm really busy with school. I have done a GB before so I do know it is quite a commitment and I understand where wannaburnstuff is coming from and I commend him for not letting it go too late before he realized it was too much for him.

A few conditions I would put though.

1) I would take payment as PP gift.
2) I would charge a little extra than what the total quotes say to cover myself. BUT, any costs that I didn't end up using I would refund accordingly back to the buyers.
3) I would not be responsible for potential customs confiscation.

That being said, who would trust me to run this under those conditions?

@DB8088: sure, don't worry!

@styropyro: I certainly trust you.
As for the conditions:
1) I'm cool with this but I've heard gift payments don't work here. Never tried but could send you a low value to test as soon as you take over the GB.
2) Sounds reasonable.
3) Do you mean from CNI to you or from you to us? If the latter, I'm fine with it but I'd need you to fill the export form in a very specific way or I'm sure to get customs trouble. It's quite simple but has to be followed to the letter.. I'll PM you the details if you're fine with that.

Hey Styropyro,
All of the GB's I have been in , the funds were sent as a gift so that is OK. With the extra money you ask for to cover unforeseen expenses to you, if any monies are left over, instead of refunding them to each participant, donate the extra funds to this forum. I remember Offroads last GB he donated a decent amount of money to the forum and I think the forum had one of its better months for donations. If you do finish this GB for everyone involved, I hope a date for the funds to be sent to you is soon as the Holiday season is coming soon and that means potential delays with shipments from China. Thank you for your willingness to do this

Very true. And I think pretty much everyone in on this one is pretty trusty and has integrity. I just wanna get it back on its feet fast. If I don't buy here, I might splurge for an Ophir instead. Depends on how this turns

Styropyro that is a very generous offer from you and you are certainly highly reputable! I had pm'd some people regarding taking it over prior to posting about it in this thread. However they were unable and I didnt want to wait any longer to let people know.

The potential problem of a large shipment of lasers being confiscated by customs is a fly in the ointment. Especially with a high value shipment.

Has anyone looked into best way to ship to minimize risk.

Maybe it could be set up with Ava the each laser is shipped to the individual customer buying to spread out the risk, like has been done in other group buys?

That sounds like a very good idea, Encap, but has it been done in GBs before? Would CNI be willing to send the lasers to each person with a Power Graph, and then what about our own testing? If I receive a laser that my 7W LaserBee says 'uh oh, Doug, this doesn't meet requirements"... Then what? I've had to trust every Co. I've purchased from, but was always offered a guarantee. WickedLasers are exceptional in this regard, although I've never had a problem with them. I wouldn't have any problem with lasers being sent to individuals, but I hope others would expect a guarantee, just as I would. But if the majority trusts CNI as if they were purchasing a single laser from them, no GB, I'm ok with that. But because I'm new to all this, I hope that others with experience would speak on this...

I'm okay with anything - Willing to paypal gift, add extra for organizer's troubles, etc.

Encap has a good point. I wonder how likely it is that these lasers would be confiscated? If they could individually be shipped to homes it would certainly simplify things and spread out risk a little more evenly.

For international buyers, I will fill out customs forms exactly as requested.

As for previous CNI group buys, I don't think it has been an issue to ship them all to the US. As far as I know CNI likes to throw <5mW stickers on them...and that seems to do the trick. Plus they have all the interlocks and whatnot. Plus CNI shipping individually is going to hike the prices considerable because CNI charges outrages shipping costs for single orders IIRC.

Either way, this is looking like something I'll be able to do. I obviously need to look into it more and I'll have time to go over stuff this weekend.
