cool! though I feel sorry for that little tube as that supply probably is cooking it a little. please tell me you turned the current all the way down on that :)

Sam supplied both. But the tube is very old and tired so that might be why he supplied that particular PS for the extra ummph. It's only doing one tenth of a mw- makes a great night light though :)

That would make sense. The voltage usually climbs as it ages.

Since the little PSU I have should work put me down for a tube if there are any left.

All ten are claimed, but I doubt they'd refuse adding another. They've got a box full. :)

Cool. Let me know when it's time to pay. I'm in Phoenix on vacation until the first part of next week but I'll try to check the forums a couple times through out day.

No rush. I'm waiting to hear back from a number of people first before we start working on payments. I just want everyone to know I'm starting the process so they can begin to prepare.

Re: [Renewed feeler]Starting gas for a pretty good price.

Ok, so here's the scoop. since we got ten tubes but not ten power supplies, we'll get a quantity discount, but only on the tubes and accessories. but not on the PSUs.

The tubes with holders, ballasts, clips came to $25.50. I underestimated a bit. but I can eat the .50 cents. so we can safely say exactly 25 per tube. those with power supplies added will cost the full extra $60

Initial shipping will be $12.00 USD / 2 = $6
The other $6 is on me for my own tube/order to be fair. I will divide the remaining $6 amongst you. ($0.55)

US buyers (continental 48 states) will pay $6 for priority flat rate shipping, unless they specify otherwise. international will get a quote based on packaging and location. so I will need your addresses.

I will begin taking payments now as soon as you are ready. I'll be sending PMs shortly to each person involved with my paypal, their total, as well as with a request for shipping info. Once I have everyone marked down as paid, then I will place the order. :)

This is going pretty smoothly, and I thank everyone for their patience as this is my 1st solo GB, so I'm using it as a learning experience for the future, and to bring some more gas lasers that have been sitting to happy homes where they can proudly show off their photons :tinfoil:

ultimatekaiser, PM me when you want my address and have an exact amount to send. How long after your order do you expect before you send the items out to members?

Re: [Renewed feeler]Starting gas for a pretty good price.

it'll likely take a couple days to get to my house and sort/test everything for defects etc. I'll be updating here as we go. I'll run to the PO tomorrow if I remember to get boxes and shipping supplies for this ahead of time to try to minimize the wait time for everyone.

I promised to do precision metering on the output of all the lasers when I got them, checking that the OCs were clean etc. Also, some of the participants have requested to have theirs be sent fully assembled, so naturally those may or may not take a little longer to get out the door.

Paid! Really looking forward to having a bare tube to play with.

(can a HeNe PSU give a lethal shock? I have a bad habit of zapping myself when I work with electricity :p)

In theory, but not really. It depends on what you're using to power it. They're pretty safe. Using a proper supply that doesn't provide more than the tube needs, especially with the small tubes, is not likely to cause permanent harm. But it's still a good idea not to zap yourself. I'll be including some instructions on how to handle them safely, wire them, etc.

Basically the general rule of thumb is don't touch the tube anode, while it's running or after it has been operated without discharging it first.

Edit:
In the case of these tubes, If you touch the anode, you'll shock yourself with a KV or so at a few mA, so it'll definitely hurt...but most people it won't cause lasting damage. The catch is that in particular if it's running, your body will increase the resistance and likely cause the tube to drop out. Power supply will then sense this and instantly try to restart the tube. You'll then end up receiving the full starting voltage (around 8KV for these!) as it takes the path of least resistance to ground through a nice, low impedance bag of mostly water :)

This will hurt a lot, but while not lethal to most it can cause invoulentary reflex, which could wind up with broken glass as the tube hits the floor/collateral damage or other such issues :(
