Here you go. Rest in Pieces.
Sigh...

Thank you very much RA. Only 3 wires on each side (plus the esd one) is probably not a great sign though.

Re: Open: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

Gary wants me to send the lens back, so it will be a few more days before I can do a test of
my own. I'm going to pick up an Arg from POLISHEDBALL tomorrow, so possibly I'm hoping
he will have a lens and an LPM, but there are no guarantees. Otherwise it's going to be the
waiting game.
I have a 1.5 and 10w meter. A few lens what were you looking to use.?

Why do you say that?

I've seen the threads with some other diodes inspected with a microscope but I skimmed over it.
Is there some correlation between the number of wires and some other characteristic of the diode?

IIRC more wires usually allows a higher power. Both the m-140s and the 9mm diodes have an extra wire on each side. Might be wrong about that though, I'll try to find a few links.

Re: Open: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

The number of bond wires is almost directly related to the operating current. The thin ones take about
500mA apiece. There are some thicker ones as well and it depends on the composition. The fact that
there is the zener diode in there at all and the matching beam profile makes it almost certain that this is in
fact the PL TB450B. None of the other diodes in the series have one.

Guys, please :D

RA is right that's just wild guessing.

Different diodes different manufactures different bond wire diameters different efficiencies etc.

Just put that thing to the test

I know it doesn't mean a lot to most, but I'll be putting these through a awful lot atleast one driven very hard, the reason my numbers don't apply as well is I'll tec cool it as a module.

Re: Open: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

EDIT see my next post, for diode 2, guessing a better representation.

I have two of these diodes, I tested with one so far. I'll be firing up the other shortly. Problem is I think I have cooked my power meter head from my 10w rgb projector. Hence my readings might be off. This diode could be doing considerable more than I measured.

I tested with a 405g2 lens and was able to get 1.3w at 1.4a. I went up to 1.7a but kept showing a loss in power as the temperature climbed quickly. I'll be trying this again once the diode cools down some. I just looked at the spec sheet, and am surprised i am not seeing better numbers. I'll test the second diode later on also. I'll push it's to 2a on the next run.

Mine is going to 1.8A right away with a G2 ;) I can't wait to get it.

Re: Open: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

Diode number 2 results. Much more like I would have expected.

Bias is at 172ma doing 30mw
500mw. @ 520ma
750mw. @. 728ma
1w. @. 945ma
1.2w. @. 1.13A
1.34w. @. 1.28A
1.55w. @. 1.428A
1.73w. @. 1.62A
1.83w. @. 1.75A
1.9w. @. 1.94A
1.93w. @. 2.2A. Clearly not worth pushing harder in my case. If I had 2 doing this I'd kill one but want to keep one working.

The first diode may have been a result of lens reflections not sure I tried a very small 2 FL lens that works great on P73's could have done some damage before I switched to the g2

Hope this is useful.

And the picture. Any idea why this forum won't resize my pictures. I don't have issues on other forums but here it hates my pics.
