Re: FEELER: XPL Lasers (RG:Y, RB:M, high-power 532s, etc)

Why can't they just use a proxy or Virtual Private Network?

Naturally China would be able to block virtually all public dedicated VPNs and proxy servers, as they're usually on a different type of ISP. If they really wanted to they could set up their own private server, but then that starts to add to the monthly bill and some people just aren't interested or don't have the knowledge to maintain it. Also not to mention it would probably be a federal offence to circumvent nation-wide internet blockades.

And yes, public virtual private networks are a thing lol. I use one when some USA-only websites don't get through on my main line.

Cool thanks for the test video. I'll probably just go with a 1.5 watt 532 as it looks like the hit close ton 2W anyway.

OK. Changed the list.

Has he updated at all on the new hosts? The video looked like the original one. Definitely exciting though. :D

He told me they have run into some problems with the driver heatsinking. I just asked him for a new estimate on time; it shouldn't be much longer than was originally anticipated. :)

Those are very good readings, but the laser seems too close to the LPM. At that power level it does make a difference!

Update: Peng told me he does not have any 2W 532nm in stock, as the components are only ordered once a purchase is made. Considering the huge price increase over the 1.5W and the fact that the 1.5W gets very close to 2W anyways, it is probably best to just get a 1.5W.

Also, I'd like to remind anyone following this that there may be more of a discount than just shipping if we can get 10 of these. :D

Re: FEELER: XPL Lasers (RG:Y, RB:M, high-power 532s, etc)

I'd like to change my request to the 532nm 1.5W version. Seems like the best bang for your buck to me. One concern I do have is whether these are IR filtered or not. If not, it's possible that a large amount of the reading could be IR. Just seems a little to good to be true in a sense. The closest comparison would be a jetlasers 800mw PLE and those are $800.

They are all IR filtered. I confirmed it both by looking inside the laser and by asking Peng. So no noticeable amount of IR is escaping. :)

Re: FEELER: XPL Lasers (RG:Y, RB:M, high-power 532s, etc)

I checked these out when they were first reviewed and the thing that got my attention was there is no active cooling on any of these DPSSLs. They seem like an awfully good price for a new laser, but they are set up for a very short duty cycle. Without active cooling, they will over heat very quickly and the pump diodes are not warranted. I'd rather have a used higher quality 532nm DPSSL labby than one of these new cheaper ones. Just my opinion.

Edit: Just watched the videos of the 1 W and the 1.5 W and they are mode hopping all over the place. That will happen when the crystals' temperature is not regulated.

To be expected in such a build - probably no pump beam correction either which doesn't help if you're aiming for a nice TEM00 output in the first place. Especially with a 6W pump, beam characteristics must be nasty.

Probably sacrificing beam quality for power.

Well, the beam quality of the 500mW is still good enough, despite running in TEM02. Divergence is 1.3 mRad. Of course I can ask Peng to measure the divergence of each laser before he sends them out. :)

Just as long as people aren't expecting nice stable TEM00 beams, wouldn't want anyone to be disappointed. :p

One of the reasons I'm not going for one of these, if it had that nice thin and dense beam characteristic with TEM00 I'd jump right on it, but I'm going to wait until I see some reviews and write-ups before making a consideration. And besides, I've already got class 4 in the green territory so I wouldn't want to buy one just for the power, but I could imagine 1.5W would be pretty nice :)
