I'm definitely in for this. I got burned paying $36 for one sled from psxboy.com lol
I'm buying like 2 or 3 probably even if my account goes into negative. F*ck the bank... :p
When are you collecting info for round... um... 6?

he's going to have them instock from here on out, so there won't be anymore group buying, he'll just have them ready to stock. comeon bluefusion, read the last two pages, you would know this. ;D

hey guys, I got a bluray 317T driver ready, I jsut want to know, can I test it using the 4 IN4001's in series, or is that too much of a load for a bluray driver?

does it still work with the 1ohm resistor in series with the load to check current?

im using 33 ohm resistor 317T driver

You need to use 6 or 7 IN's to equal the voltage drop of the laser diode.

Yes you can use the 1 ohm in series and measure the voltage across it to get the current. You can do this in any circuit. Or you can safely measure the current between the power source and the circuit.

Since the side is off my computer case, I just touch the metal frame every now and then to discharge anything I may have built up. But I never feel any sort of shock when I do so I guess I never build up anything to begin with. But I think if you're always working with the diode while it's suspended from ground, i.e. not near ground potential, you shouldn't have to worry about static shocks. If your body has a static buildup then it's looking for ground, not a floating laser diode which leads to nowhere. It's not like you're going to touch the diode and it goes through it back to you causing a shock. Like a bird on a high voltage wire. :)

ESD is a bitch. In order for you to actually feel anything the potential between you and the ground must be about 3000V. This is far more than it takes to kill a laser diode, especially those bluray diodes. There's a model of the human body used to electronically simulate ESD. It simply states that the body can be represented by a 100pF capacitor with 1500 Ohm discharging resistance. Using U=R*I it's easy to see that 3000V would cause an initial current of 2A. Will your diode survive this? Let's say it can survive 200mA. That corresponds to 300V, 10 times less than what you can actually feel. So basically, just because you can't feel any discharge when you touch ground it doesn't mean it's not there.

Leaving the diode floating might seem like a good idea, but high voltage is also tricky because it can not only "jump" in air, but also discharge to air if the voltage or frequency is high enough. The discharge is also more likely to occur at sharp tips (like a diode pin). Usually that doesn't happen until you reach really high voltages, but it can still happen with ESD. You also have to think about what you use to suspend it, because things that work as insulators at low voltages might not at high voltages. That is why simply bridging the two legs together is the way to do it.

Now where are those cheap BD burning diodes?

I used 100ohm resistor for the load and the 1ohm so I didn't have to do the math's. It works fine ;)

Half of the orders were shipped. I thought I posted that up already... :-?

Oh well... Half were shipped out and the other half is being prepared and will be shipped out soon. These BluRays are really a pain because salvaging takes A LONG TIME!

I also talked with a couple people about this and although the census is that having them in stock is a great option for you and me, it;s really a very costly and a very risky act. Given the fact that my profit margin is so low, holding up a few thousand dollars in stock here at home is not really the ideal option for me... lol.

I think, regardless of how amazing it would be to be right on top of this and have them ship out on an order now ship now basis, that unless I actually have a reliable enough profit margin, this is a big debt waiting to bite me in the @$$.

On that note... The next GB will be open in a little while... :) There will also be an option to buy the 200mW red diodes as well ;) :p

Than you all for your patience and understanding;

Daedal, i can only imagine how tedious it must be getting to salvage those. i'm sure i speak for everybody when I say how much we all appreciate the work you put into this just so we can have cheap diodes. on another note, I fried my first one and can't wait to see precious purple again :( so HURRY UP! ;)

How much are the red 200mW?

deadal isnt selling the phazor ones anymore, due to price difficulties

its more worth it anyways to get an open can, they go up high when it comes to mW, 200mW CW at 350mA, and with proper heatsinking and regulation you can push it up to 300mW

they are real sexy sons of bitches!!!
