new here... but couldn't resist spending my ice-cream money on this. Payment made for one unit. Now, all I have to do is find the time to do this project up right!

Hate to break it to you, but you can't build a blue laser from this, these are violet diodes. Violet is still a cool color for a laser though!danq said:

How can I mod the design for the GB LD driver? If it requires more volts to light, couldn't I just supply it with more volts and add/take out some components so about 5 volts gets to the LD? How about sticking 2 6v lantern batteries in series? Would I then not be able to use the LM317?

Since the blu-ray needs 5v to operate, why not use a 7805vr ?? It is PERFECT
A 7805 is a bad idea. To control any laser diode you should regulate the current not the voltage. The reason that the LM317 works well is that it can be configured to operate as current regulator. There seems to be a lot of confusion about this on these forums :-?SenKat said:

Perhaps a lame excuse, but given a set temperature a voltage and current regulator will do the same thing. As long as you aren't planning on using your laser in some extreme temperature change, I don't see why you couldn't use a voltage regulator.

Only blu-ray dvd players and the ps3.
The laser in this module probably isn't strong enough to burn anything since it is only a reader. But the price is ridiculously good though for a psp module
Now if DX starts selling ps3 modules, we'll be all over them cos their prices can't be beat.
If we all start requesting for them, maybe they WILL start stocking them.
