Payment sent.

Is there any way to up our orders without having to pay for the shipping again? Some people might decide they want more a few days later.

Do let us know what is the current count so we can know roughly when the actual order is going to be made.

Thanks.

*Edit* I guess we must have paid at the same time chimo!

Got your payment xarylx :)

Actually... you paid a tad bit before Chimo. Just under 7 minutes before ;)

I saw somewhere where someone had a DX flashlight made with one of these that had two buttons, one for the red and one for the violet and some build notes. I been trying to find it again. ( was on CPF i think ) Anyone know what I am talking about?

Hey Guys,

I'm wondering what are the best static precautions to take with these? I live in a pretty humid area of the US, but I will probably be getting only 2 decks and I don't want to zap them. Can anybody reccomend an anti-static mat or kit (mat and wrist strap)?

Daedal - expect my payment later tonight.

Thanks!

Yuip, don't worry about the payment deadline... I think we're gonna break the minimum easily. I'm sitting at about 35 units ordered so far and I have a few coming in still (I have 6 spoken for). The minimum is 50, but the maximum is infinity. Keep the orders coming guys. :D

As about the static problem... Just make sure you use common sense. Don't keep rubbing your foot on the floor, don't rock back and forth, preferably don't have a fan blowing if you have long hair, use a grounding mat and even better if you're barefoot, using a grounding strap... etc. All these are precautions. If only I followed what I preach ;D I tend to be very careful when handling the diode, but once it's in there and the wires are on the diode (I tie them together to eliminate static from frying the diode) all caution is thrown to the wind ;) ;D

You'll get the hang of it quickly if you've done a red LD before.

I think it's in the multimedia section.

Really? I've messed with 3 red diodes before, and out of the three I didn't fry any from static. Two of those times I didn't even use a wrist strap or a mat.

However, I think I'll be picking up a mat and wrist strap from somewhere, I just really want to know if the RadioShack kit is any good or not...

Wear cotton clothing - NOT polyester.  Cotton sox or barefoot and if you don't have a grounding wrist strap, use a clip lead from your watch band to ground.  You can add a 470K Ohm resistor to ground to protect YOU  ;D
I admit to being static careless when it's humid but cool dry weather is coming and I will be back to grounding myself.

Thanks for the tips, Mike. Most of my clothes are 100% cotton, so that might be why I've had good luck in the past. I think I'll get the anti-static mat kit from RS in addition to the cotton clothing, homemade anti-static strap, etc. With these diodes I rather not take any chances. :p

The violet diode needs ~4.5v to lase so being powered off 3/3.6v isn't going to cut it unless there is a boost circuit which might not be stable enough. I'd think they are just driving the green module which already has its own drive circuit.

There are probably better and cheaper torches on DX to mod the blu-ray diode into. I am not convince that the latest DX green is one of them. But most torch circuits are power regulated and run at way too high current. You might be better off getting a cheap smallish low quality led torch which draws about 20-40mA per led. But those are usually series resistor driven I think.
But if you just want the body, it's pretty good looking but I'd rather get one with HAIII anodizing. That neutral color is just so sexy compared to plain black or common silver.

DX sells anti static wrist straps for only $1.80. Not sure about the quality but probably better than a home made one. They actually look like they have conducting fibers around the strap like 3M straps instead of just a metal plate.

Thanx High_Octane! Interesting start!
Thanx, too, xarylx! Though we maybe need to take further comments on this topic over to the modding threads.

Daedal, I am in for 3 for sure, I'm trying to figure out how to get the Paypal credit card thing, if all else fails I will just use my parent's credit card and pay them back, but before you order I just want you to know that I am for sure ordering 3.
