Waterproof, and waterproof to 100 meters are entirely different requirements in my mind.

Waterproof is a nice feature if you want to use a laser in the rain. Lasers look very attractive on a foggy/rainy day, so it's nice to have at least one that you can take out without worrying about wetness and moisture.

But waterproof in the sense of being submersible, has a very very very limited use case - presumably focussed on divers who want to point to things while under water. I wonder if even 5 people in this hobby community have ever actually used a laser for that?

In my mind, once you have one laser that is "rain proof", the whole water resistance issue probably becomes a non-issue for 99% of us.
Small correction, sorry I'm not trying to be anal but being able to use it in the rain or being able to submerse it to 100m would be water resistant or water resistant to 100m, water proof is different, there is basically no limitation as to how deep you could go without the seals breaking and letting water in, the water pressure cracking the lens would be a different rating..

And it would be completely reasonable to have a 2W 445nm down deep, what if you have to battle dr.evils laser armed sharks? ;-)

It's done, no need to post ideas, suggestions, or anything like that. Ita already been decided!

I guess I am looking at a cookie crisis- running low on pecan sandies LOL

Lets see 100-200 pieces ---depending upon type of CNC 3axis. 4 axis, 5 axis--with 5 axis would be easy and fast but would guess pontaic does have one

5(7) parts hummm I wonder how they will be assembled -- I hope the the pieces on either side of the handgrip section are not just press fit like the Arctic--many of those have fallen apart because of same---I guess good threads would be nice with appropriate locktite product.

@Encap, Please Liston to Ra1nfade

Everyone is getting irritated with your Questions because all this has been gone over Many Times Over. We have talked about all the issues your asking. Most Likely this wont be done again, and Honestly if it is Repeated Most Likely it will be using the same design to keep time down. :undecided:

You can Buy and Modify Your Own and Please we would love to see the pictures.

Most of the finalizations are in the OP, I'll continue to pick through the 21 pages to try and find anything I missed.

And once again, this is the 4th or 5th thread I've found with the tag jake is gay, and everybody knows who did it. Pathetic, that somebody is so obsessed and in love with me that they follow me every day. I check my recent visitors page, and every day the same person is on there, checking in on me, and visiting my page every other day!

IF you want to take me to dinner, all you have to do is ask ;) I'm no whore though, so you won't be getting lucky ;)

What the tag? How about jibs drover sales thread? I'd it relevant there? Or here? Or the other multiple threads? Nope, somebody is deeply I'n love with me, but they are afraid to ask me out

Fun forum drama aside

These will be made of 6061 aluminum. 7075 (I assume you mean 7075, as it is the most common 7xxx series aluminum alloy. There is no such thing as 7025 as far as I know.) will not be used because of the increased cost and resistance to anodizing. 7075 also corrodes faster which is bad for those wanting a polished finish. There is no reason for such a high strength aluminum alloy in this application.

All of these parts except for the trim ring that holds the smartswitch will be threaded together with o-ring seals. This arctic will be a great deal more water resistant than the original but by no means will it be waterproof nor will I make any attempt to do so. Sorry! I really can't see any need to have a 2W laser 100 meters deep anyway. Last I checked, nobody makes laser safety diving goggles. You wouldn't be able to burn anything and the beam quality would be less than ideal for pointing. There are better lasers for this purpose, I suggest you look into one of those.

Most of these parts will be run on live tooling lathes with a few exceptions being run on a 4th axis mill. There is no reason at all to use a 5th axis machine on any of these parts (Where are you seeing parts that need 5th axis work?)

You have to understand, while 100 orders of $100 dollar assemblies might seem like a lot it's really incredibly low in the machining industry. If you want proof of that bring your arctic to a local machine shop and ask them to make you 100 or so. I would bet that you won't like the price they give you too much. The reason I can make them cheaper is because I can go in on weekends and run machines in time where those machines are usually resting for the weekend.
As such it is going to take me some time to completely run all of these parts when I do get started assuming I am devoting 100% of my free time to the project. If I were to start now, while I am trying to work a day job, a night/weekend job as well as many small things on the side I would never get finished. So, I ask for a little more patience, please!

I don't think the recent visitors box refreshes every day, I think it's just the last ten in general.

It doesn't refresh every day, it keeps the last ten on there, and every tome this certain users name goes off of the list, it comes right back the next day

But good to hear from you Pontiac! Don't worry about anybody saying blah blah blah blah when will these be done I can't wait blah blah blah.
When you are ready, we will be here. And when it is time to start taking orders, we will then see who is still In and who isn't. Take your time dude, your helping us out majorly, an I for one am incredibly thankful for your time.

jakeGT: It was relevant in the thread where we all taught you how to use a Digital Multimeter. :p I didn't know it'd been in more than just that.

rangedunits: Yeah, probably a good idea... haha... well spotted.

Krogith: Stop hurrying him! We all know he's a busy man, being taken out to dinner by guys on the forum! And besides, the less he updates the cheaper it is for us!

(That's $1 off the price :na:)
