A driver you're building, or one you found? If it is one you are building, tell me. I have my own circuit I've been working on, and it could be useful for this.

After a conversation I just had... I happen to agree, I think this should be officially re-named... Thats Right it needs a New Name, IMO

I do not think that with all the work Pontiacg5 is doing on this and how it is going to be what we all dreamed we wanted made in the 1st place. Calling it The Arctic just doesn't do it any justice what so ever... It kinda brings down the quality of the work... We don't want to have something 100X's better and call it by the same crappy name. This is going be a Real Beast!!! Not some mass produced Arctic from China (no offense to Chinese people) So I would like to make a suggestion for a New Name For this Awesome host being designed and built for us.... We Should Call It......

The Anti-ArcTic, that you would pronounce as: The Ant-Arctic

Let me explain.

Anti-Arctic, as it is the very reverse of the actual Arctic. It will not break etc easily.

Antarctic is pretty much spot-on.

Here's a couple of name suggestions:
"The Boomstick"
"Model 42"
"The Omega" (in a similar fashion as the "42")
"The Sonic" (as in screwdriver)
"The λ"(-spewer,-machine,-capacitor, whatever)

Everyone could likely do that on their own end.

Don't want this to hijack the thread in any way - but I don't have a grinder, and I've been trying to figure out a way to smooth out coin surfaces. Toilet bown cleaner (10% hydrochloric acid) + hydrogen peroxide, slightly warmed, works wonders at dissolving metal. You could probably use the laser printer DIY PCB transfer method to mask off lettering on your host, and then leave it in an acid bath overnight.

I sure as heck wouldn't chemical etch my beautiful Anti-Arctic though ;)

Im not sure how the anodized coating would like an acid etch treatment but your right rhd definitely wouldnt want to risk this fiiiiiiiine host for sure :D

I might try to pinstripe or diamond etch mine if i could get time to make a fixture for it...

I could engrave something on the milled flats without too much trouble, it wouldn't be anything super fancy though...

It would really be up to you :) but im not sure a name has been locked down or the style of it. I think everybody here wants to make sure that the name is a perfect match for your awesome host;)

And thanks for the all the work and time your are putting into this host it is evolving into one of the most impressive hosts ive ever seen:D

My prototypes of the voltage monitor PCB are here :)

I stuffed a couple of boards, and quickly realized I forgot to order the LEDs ... oooops. So Ill have to wait for those to show up before I can test the circuit. I think the we can do without the onboard light pipe and just have a generic one attached to the host. As you can see its quite silly looking.

Pontiac, man you may as well name it! Really its a darn good idea especially since you're the builder of a vastly superior product. Maybe something epic or legendary, certainly would fit.
Heck call it the GTO (of the laser world)!:yh:
