Well, this is as far as I am now. I'm still contemplating how I am going to handle the extra battery space issue. I can't really use the space as extra heatsinking since it's too far away from the diode. If I pack the space on by the diode it would become impossible to press the diode, if I add it further down the host it would make fitting a driver rather difficult. I'm trying to design the thing with as much heatsinking around the diode as possible but that makes special presses necessary. The way I have it designed now uses the back of an aixiz module as a press, but as many of you know that is not the best way to press a diode...

I really didn't want to make one, but I'll probably end up building a "sled" to hold the positive battery terminal as well as a spot for a side click switch to be mounted. There would also be room to heatsink a good amount of drivers directly to the sled as well.

I also made the entire thing thread together with space for o-rings on every seam. I also "borrowed" the tailclicky design from the Kryton (I hope Ken doesn't mind!) so the tailcap will be serviceable. (I might get rid of that plan, a lot of the extra space is coming from down there...) The threads will be very short and very coarse because threading the thing together the way I have it designed now will twist some wires. If the threads are short and coarse enough the twisting should be very minimal...

Thanks for the positive comments guys!

So would people just be putting A140 diodes in there? I was trying to think of a way for it to be more, 'original'. I mean, that would just be like a non-defective arctic. How 'bout a red build, or blu-ray? You know what I want? A way to press and remove diodes, so I could switch out between red, blue, and blu-ray diodes.

EDIT: Maybe that's asking too much... I will just use one of FlaminPyro's diode removal tools

Side clicky would be nice, if you don't go with that plan what about a simple spacer for the extra room? Sounds wonderful what you have I'n mind Pontiac, awesome. Thanks again

And will update the op when I get to a computer and not Mh iphone

A fan assembly pushing air over the heat-sink would take up some room...

Or A Liquid Cooling system...

I'm joking about how there adding and adding your doing a awesome job

M-hmm, and how exactly do you figure the diode won't be removable? Also, how does the way I designed the host prevent you from using other diodes than the 140?

Oh, and Pyro's removal press won't work with my lens design.

Seriously though, how may hosts come with a removal press? And for that matter who buys one host with the intentions of switching diodes on the fly?

You're a lot like Toaster, you fly off the handle with disrespectful posts yet you have no idea what you are talking about.

And who would really want to put a 300mW red diode in this beauty anyway?

OK, but [somewhat] seriously, how about using the extra space for an optional TEC with its own battery (CR123A, etc.)? Complexity+, but coolness (in both senses) ++

I meant like instead of a press fit, there would be a threaded tool like in flaminpyro's heatsink pictured below:

That would also take up some of the extra room in there :)

By the way, I wasn't being disrespectful at all. I dont see how you could take my earlier post as disrespectful, but in whatever way you did, I'm sorry for it.

I like the idea of a driver sled/heatsink with a retainer for the battery terminal. That way it leaves the space available for those that want to do a side clicky mod.

I agree with Pontiac don't go negating this . If you even want I'n on it I wi not let peoe In on the group buy that I am hosting who are disrespecting pontiacs design or help to us In any way shape or form , I Want a host that can hold 6 different diodes, has a camera,mp3, and a humidor I'n it pontiac now. Sorry guys u have no say I'n how this thing is gonna be built

This is how I imagined it would be set up:

It was just an idea; I'm not asking you to actually do it.

hey man, its all good in my hood, im just saying, pontiac is making them, however he can get it to work, whatevers easiest for him to do with his time and make it affordable is what we will get, anybody is welcome to making their own modifications to their own individual hosts if one pleases

none will be different or made to order, what he makes is what we get, you dont have to get one if you dont like them. Lets just let him do his job and see what we get:beer:

Does anyone want to help me design a battery voltage monitor? Something along the lines of a dual comparator and a bi color LED? I was thinking a chip like this...

Linear Technology - LTC1440 - Ultralow Power Single/Dual Comparator with Reference

Here is an idea for the driver holder/heatsink. The only problem is the way I have it designed here will be a SERIOUS pain to align with the holes for a side switch. I'd like to make it plastic and have it press fit, but then that doesn't leave anything for driver sinking. Making it press fit aluminum would make it hard to take apart...

I'll figure it out eventually, maybe when I'm a touch more sober
