What if we just press the diode in completely? Or if we use spacers in the focusing ring?

Would this work well with a Kryton groove?

I don't know how the Kryton groove works. I'm assuming both the diode hole and the lens nut hole were modeled after an AixiZ module, especially since when i mentioned pushing diodes in completelly, Kenom noticed that the same goes for the Kryton.

So if it works in the AixiZ, then i see no reason it would not work there.....


Spyder: Pushing diodes in completelly is a good idea anyway.. But it doesn't have much to do with this....



Anyway, i took the other lens. I took a look under magnification, and it's clean, no scratches....

I glued this one to a lens nut. I don't want to risk grinding it again. I think i got it straight this time.. Time for another test..

I used an Aixiz lens holder in my first Kryton. It will work in the groove.

Well, in the Kryton groove, there are threads in the head made for an aixiz lens nut. I don't think there is an option... :-/

There is more than one manufacturer of this size lens nut, but it is the AixiZ size lens nut that is needed.

Ok.... I can say one thing for sure.

No spherical abberations with the v3! None whatsoever. No wings!

I still haven't gotten the second sample in perfectly straight, but i did manage to get a spot of the perfect proportions, with no crap around, both for a blu and for a red, at shorter distances..

In fact, the red spot looked like this: - o -

A spot with two stripes on the side, just like it would be with an acrylic..

If there were distortions, they would be most noticable on the sides. But the stripes were in the right place, the pattern was exactly the same as with an acrylic, only smaller! I was beginning to think this was impossible to reach, because, like i said, the more lenses i tested, the more impressed i was with the cheap AixiZ acrylics!


But i got no distortions around the spot, a spot of perfect shape and proportions, and only slight distortions IN the spot (but not around it), as a result of the slight tilt and or imperfect centering.. These distortions were not noticable from up close but only from a distance, which is where tilt and imperfect centering would show themselfes the most. The bad type of distortions was noticable from any distance and only got bigger with it.

The final lens will be made to fit, so these two problems will be gone. Before, the more i tested a lens, the more depressed i got. This time, the more i test it, the more sure i am, that....


I'm almost afraid to say it, from fear, that i will jinx it....  :-X

I've been getting the same question in emails and PMs a couple of times by now, so i just want to make sure there is no misunderstanding....

I am grinding the samples because they are too big. I won't have to grind each lens by hand...  ;D
They will be made to fit by the manufacturer. They just didnt bother with the two samples, that's all..

A thing like that would be completelly impossible. The prices i was given were for lenses reduced in diameter to 7mm + coatings.. I won't even touch those lenses, except with a vacuum pipette.
