Yeah, i am assuming that by default, unless specified otherwise.

Now where to get so many AixiZ lens nuts, without the AixiZ modules? :-/

you could always just tack on a few extra bucks and sell them as a whole module.... I really think that will be the only way unless you can get aixiz to sell only the nuts...

Yeah, that's what i suggested at the start..

It would make the most sense anyway.. Even if someone just needs a lens for an existing laser, they will have to take the plastic lens out of there and put this one in. Then they are left with another AixiZ module with a plastic lens. And you can't really have too many of those in this hobby, i think.. :)

i agree IgorT. Im always running around to try and find modules. Sell them as a unit, most people can afford to drop a few extra dollars if they really are looking for some great 405nm light.

I would gladly pay full price for the whole module plus extra for installing the lens. win win :D

I'd be more than happy to inquire how much it would cost for the manufacturer to turn these. The only thing that needs to be done is someone with drafting skills needs to do a diagram of the lens holder so that it's just a matter of grabbing the necessary dimensions for them to turn make the lens nuts/holders. I do know that it was very simple for them to make the threads on the heads of the barrels so it would be just as easy to make the plastic lens nuts. By doing the drafting prior so they just need to turn them, would save the consultation fee of $400 I don't know however if that will save us any money in the long run. You can buy the lenses alone from aixiz in orders over 150 at $.45 a lens.

Well, this sounds much better already! We definitelly need over 150... So i guess i will do this.

Making a custom lens holder would be required, if the lens would not fit perfectly. But these are made to fit, so i think it's better to do it this way.

I'd also like to get a ML AR coated lens for 650nM reds, in an AixiZ nut.

If we're planning on making custom nuts for this, why not go the other route and make special heads and lenses where the lenses screw in directly (or are held in place) to maximize the area that the diode's output enters the lens?

Well, we're not planning on making custom nuts just yet. I'm still hoping the lenses will work in the AixiZ lens nuts. Only if that presented some problems, would it make sense to make custom nuts. But one of the manufacturers i'm talking to seems to have suitable nuts for their lenses, in case it didn't work. Still waiting on an answer about that. EDIT: Looks like they can make the nuts...

Otherwise, how much light will enter the lens depends on the NA (numerical apperture) of the lens. Every lens has a certain NA. If something is behind it, like the retaining plate with the small hole, obstructing some of the effective diameter, it lowers the NA of the lens. If the plate is opened up, so that only a ring remains, the NA of the lens is not affected in a way, that would reduce the amount of light collection.

But i always test with and without, just to make sure there is no difference. And i actually had to turn a closed plate around, so that the plate with the small hole pressed against the lens, to lower it's NA - that's because of the short FL with the first lens..

In any case, i got two aspheric samples, and the first one doesn't seem to work. It has similar distortions as spherical lenses, and the centering is bad, cos it's a little too small. The other one would seem to work. It produces a round spot with the brighter elliptical middle, like acrylic lenses... Need to do more testing. :)

The third and last aspheric sample is supposedly finished too. ;)

I don't know if they are "making the nuts" or buying them from another manufacturer, but here is some info. I bought a couple of these on eBay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250268517093

They are NOT up to our standards. However, take a look at the rear aperture. The retaining ring is open. There is nothing to cut out to open it. Also, it is easy to remove and replace. If they are buying them, have them look into this supplier/manufacturer for this nut.

Peace,
dave

I've inquired about buying those in bulk some time ago and was NOT impressed with the prices they wanted. I don't discourage you from inquireing for a bulk rate but compared to the aixiz at $.50 or less per it just didn't rate IMO

Yeah.. It's too bad actually.. :( This lens looks like the dilda lens. The Dilda also only has a retaining ring in the back with no plate obstructing light, just like in the pictures.

I would much prefer to use such lens nuts. Because otherwise, i will have to cut open every single one by myself, and it doesn't always come out pretty.. Functional, yeah, but pretty, no.. I think the best would be to drill them open instead. I would also feel bad about discarding the AR coated lenses, because they are very good for reds.

Otherwise, the manufacturer of the aspheric lenses has the possibility of making their own lens nuts.
The best lens so far has a rim, that makes the diameter 7.8mm.. The AixiZ lens nut only has 7mm room.

So they will either have to reduce this rim to 7mm, to make the lens fit, or reduce it a bit and make a lens nut for it.
Getting the lenses in their own lens nuts would be the best and most proffesional possibility for this special lens. But i guess the price will decide this one for us...

I still didn't get the third aspheric lens. I would definitelly like to test that one too.
But if they don't do something soon, i think i'll go with these. It's the highest transmittance material anyway, it's just about FLs and distortion properties now.
