Re: 405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

Hehe, thanks.. :) They are pretty.

The other two models will be more bulged in the middle, but this different geometry causes them to have the same FL over the entire diameter, so they has better distortion properties - and this way, they even bring the sides of the diode output out in the same beam, with very little going off to the sides..

Hope i get them soon!

P.S. Oh, and i think i did notice a slight difference in the appearance of the coatings. I think the 405nm looks SLIGHTLY more pink or redish, while the multilayer looks more orangeish or gold.

But it's a very small difference, and i have not yet had a chance to test the lenses on a red. Too much real work! :( Hope i can play more with these soon.

Any idea when you will start selling them?

He's still getting his "samples." As I understand it, all of the lenses in the "exploratory" order have an assigned place. After he tests them, he will report the results and, if warranted, organize a GB. The "selling" of them is a ways off yet.

Beautiful Igor!!!!

Are you sure the lenses aren't the other way around? Most of the AR coated 405 stuff I've seen looks to be a gold-ish yellow.

We can make an order, as soon as i compare the other two models to this one. The second model is being made this week. The third is already made, if i understood correctly, so i just have to get it shipped to me, in a reasonably small quantity.

After i test them all i will report the results from all of them, and we can then select the best one. We could in fact order two models with different FLs, but it would cost us less, if we make one big order of one model lens.

The aspherics can be expensive, but if heursciences is serious, we could get them at a similar price as with the first lens!

Anyway, i don't just want A lens, i want D lens!

Yeah, i'm sure, they were marked, and i put the 405nm lenses left, and the ML lenses right for this photo, so i wouldn't confuse them.

What the coating looks like, really depends on the angle and the background. The diode window in a PHR looks golden. The lenses in the sled also reddish brown to golden.

But a PHR window has a closed dark can for the background, so it will look different, than outside, and i think the coatings are somewhat more prominent on plastic lenses. On glass lenses, they are hard to even see.

I have yet to test the ML lenses. There is hardly a visible difference from the ML ones. For a while, i almost thought all were either 405nm or ML coated. But a quick test of both on a blu ray and then on a red will show the differences, don't worry about it.. ;)

One of the aspherics is on the way to me.. This time with UPS.

The other one should also be finished "this week", so.. I don't know.. The sooner the better.
I will have at least two to compare next week. Then the third should follow.

There is a fourth option, but at a certain point it'll become necessary to stop comparing, and decide for one.

Otherwise, i think the first aspheric could be the winner.. The material has a 405nm transmittance of 0.96 - that's 96% for a 10mm slab of glass. The lens is only 2.8mm, so less than a third of 4% will be lost in the glass.. This material should be just about perfect - 98.88% - almost not there!      ;)

I don't yet have transmittance data for the third material tho. But in the end, all that matters is how they perform on a meter.

Sorry, I need x4 650nm AR coated lenses and x4 405nm AR coated lenses.

Thanks a lot ;)

Hehe, ok.. Which reminds me.. I haven't updated the list in a while.. So much work!

Anyway, i'm so excited about this! We are actually gonna have 3 lenses to choose the best from! :D

Otherwise, i was told, you can clean these lenses by dipping them in acetone.. The coatings are baked onto the lens, and there is not much you can do to it.. So all the attempts to remove coatings with solvents were in vain..

Of course, you should not dip them into acetone with the lens nut.. ::)

LensPens work great on them. But i recommend having one LensPen for the glass lens exclusivelly, to avoid cross contamination - if you use it to remove oily residue from your glasses or something, you can just as well throw it away, as it'll just make the lens dirty.

The tiny LensPen MicroPro should be great for this, or the CellKlear, which you get with any LensPen purchase for free.

With plastic lenses, i try hard not to get them dirty, as they can sometimes get ruined by cleaning alone.
Here, this won't happen, unless you "clean" it with a screwdriver, or sand paper.. ;)

Re: 405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

Finally weekend! :)

Did more testing.. I got some red diodes from SenKat this week (thanks again!), so i could finally make myself another red laser.

First i wanted to test, if the coatings are different at all. I had a suspicion, that they were all ML, as i wasn't sure if i could see a visual difference at all.

So a 16x Sony diode:
- 180mW after a plastic lens
- 204mW after a 405nm AR coated glass lens - 13.33% increase
- 208mW after a ML AR coated glass lens - 15.56% increase

This is interesting. A Meredith is AR coated for reds, increases the power of reds by 20%, but the power of blu rays by 13%.
The 405nm AR coated glass lens increases the power of blu rays by 20%, but the power of reds by 13%....

The difference in the increase between the wrong and the correct coating is 7 % in both cases.
So replacing the wrong coated lens with the right coated one will further increase the power by 6.2% (on top of the power, the wrong coated one already does).

The multilayer on the other hand only increases the power of reds by 15.56%.. So it would definitelly be worth to replace the multilayers with 650nm optimised single layers, to get ~20%...

Next i need to test the multilayer on a blu ray, to see if i also get ~15% instead of 20...

I would be in for 1 405nm coated lens pre-installed in an Aixiz nut, since I wouldn't begin to know how to install it myself.
