I've busted 4 windows loose in extraction and am going to have to send them to gooey for can removal.
I don't understand.. What driver are you using? If it's a linear driver, and two Li-Ions in series, it could be underpowered soon after the top charge sags. If it's a LavaDrive, two Li-Ions in series are outside of what it's meant to get, unless you're using some diodes to drop the voltage. But even if it's getting a little too much, the current should remain the same...

Otherwise, two Li-Ions in series are two Li-Ions in series, regardless of their size or internal resistance - as long as you're using a driver, the current will be what you set it to, as long as it's getting what it needs. So what driver is it?

About the windows... If 200mW (167mW after plastic) should turn out to be too much for these diodes, removing the window and setting the current lower could help A LOT!

Oh, and the power tests are conclusive.. The most i've seen it vary is +-1%. I don't yet know if it's from differences in plastic lenses, or just heat from all the testing. Need to do more tests. But so far i always get 19-21% more, so the average is 20%..

There are many other things left to test tho. *But it's tomorrow here, and i have to sleep occasionally. So more info tomorrow. I mean today (your tomorrow)..

well given the initial results I'm defenitly in for at least 3-4 I'm curious if this is going to be the only time your going to offer up these lenses. currently I don't have enough $$$ for more than just a few for personal use but it's something I'd like to offer up with my barrels as an upgrade to the existing lens.

Yup i'm pretty serious as far as interest if not to expensive...

If I could get the collimator nuts then i would mount them myself. What is the going rate for these lenses. Are they single later Mgf for broadband use or multilayer MgF for a 405nm explicitly? The way to tell is the single layer ones will reflect neutral white, while the multilayer will reflect a sort of orangish gold color. Also what color do the broad band ones reflect most? Thanks 8-)

Well, it mostly depends on how much time i have..

This entire project (lenses, and the lasers to pay for the lenses) started taking way too much time from my real work, and i was almost neglecting my company for the last month. It was also quite stresfull to be honest.

Anyway, if people are willing to mount their lenses themselves, in their own len nuts, i can always make another order...

BUT! I still need a HUGE quantity of plastic lens nuts, if i'm supposed to mount any lenses. If it's possible to get just the acrylic lenses in their plastic lens nuts somewhere, then someone PLEASE tell me!

If i can't find the lens nuts, it's gonna have to be lenses in AixiZ modules.. But that is not that bad in my oppinion.. The receiver would just switch the lenses, and have one more module, and you can never have too much of those in this hobby..

But! We are not making any orders just yet.. I still need to compare these to the other manufacturer lenses, with slightly different properties.

Umm. I have a feeling you confused something. Multilayer is for broadband, single layer MgF2 is optimised for 405nm.

And the reflection of the coatings.. Which should reflect what? The wavelength specific single layer vs. the multilayer broadband? (in the correct order this time)
A PHR diode window looks golden/orangeish, but i do not believe it is multilayer. Single layer optimised for 405nm would have a better transmittance.

The coatings on these lenses look pinkish-something or so (when mounted in the lens nut).. I have not yet tested the ML lenses. But strange enough, they look the same. *:-?

Actually I've noticed a trend in the new acrylic lens holders. Instead of just putting the holder in place, they are actually gluing them in place now. makes it very difficult if not impossible to remove the back end of the plastic housing and insert your own lens. I don't know if this is something that could be requested special or not. I do know that my manufacturer can do plastic stuff so I could inquire about having some plastic nuts made for these.

Hmm.. I've heard of that (being glued shut).. But so far, all i've got from DX could be opened.. Of course, those are different every time i get them.. :

You have someone, who could do plastic? If not too expensive, that could be very usefull for this project! It could also make mounting easier... At the moment i am using some tiny o-rings, of perfect dimensions to support the edges of the front face (THANK YOU GLENN! ).. But they work nicelly, and the back retaining ring (opened) then makes it perfectly centered.....

But i should really go sleep. I can barelly keep my eyes open.

I thought that some of mine were glued shut, but with extra effort, I got all of them that I tried, opened.

Yeah, i just put a tiny screwdriver through the hole at an angle, so the tip comes between the edge of the lens and the edge of the back part. Then i just lever it out. If i hit the right spot, it just pops out easily in fact. If i do not hit the right spot, the back part gets ripped appart. And i have scratched a lens on occasion, especially when in a hurry....

They look like the Dilda lens.. AR coated for reds. This would be a good cheap lens for red lasers, if it's the same, or works the same!

I tested some reds with a clear acrylic, a triple AR glass, and the dilda AR acrylic, and there was hardly any difference between clear acrylic and triple element glass, but the AR acrylic was MUCH higher in power! I did not calculate the exact percentages yet tho.. But for some reason it also has more distortions than a clear acrylic - a ring around the beam. On the dilda, these are blocked by the long tube of the head..

Anyway, i have a **** load of work to do, least of all, i need to make me another high powered blu ray..

Then i need to do like a hundred more tests with the lenses and prepare a full report. I don't know if i can do everything today. There's also this thing called life coming in between every now and then..

I tried to make some good pictures of the lenses i have here. It is hard to capture what the coating looks like, and my camera does not have spectacular macro abilities.

So these will have to do for now. Two lenses mounted in a lens nut and two still outside. In both pictures, it's 405nm on the left, and a ML on the right.

The mounting in the lens nuts works as expected. An o-ring supports the front face, and an opened up retaining ring keeps it in, and positioned at the right angle. The diameter fits perfectly, so there is no wobbling or centering issues.

The other model is being prepared this week, and i will also get a third model for comparison!
This way we can then select the lens most suitable for our needs..

Mostly, the differences are in the geometry, but also in the focal lengths. The glass material in the other two is also supposed to have a better transmittance for UV.

More info soon!
