Yeah forthy I was always intrigued by this, but you desribed only one part of the theory, the other one states that it will eventually stop expanding...upon which contraction will occur until the matter is so dense and the gravity so great that another big-bang will occur and with it a completely new universe...

I think that the one described is the "one universe theory" while the other one would be "the sequential universe theory", of course my names are probably (most likely) way off, but I think I got it in the ball-park

Far out :cool:

I am not very confident in our universes elasticity.
I believe that it will rip and cause a great fire as all matter is instatly converted into energy (instantly as in a big wave starting at the sight of the rip) and our universe will be no more, but its leftover energiez will exist in the whatever is outside the universe (much like a poping water baloon)

Well yeah there is an edge to the universe, it is expanding, but at the edge it is still being created.

hope this diagram helps

One Q, why does it appear redder when it goes to a higher K, shouldnt it be opposite? I mean, higher T, more blue/white colour

Ok, you cant lit a fire in outer space. there is no air to create combustion. and dude you cant present a theory of your own to us if you say "leftover energiez".

only VI can :p

I think it will just expand forever and the mass will basically become extremely sparse.

Btw niko, is there anything goin on between you and VI, I mean you talk about him A LOT ;D

[sarcasm]Yes I'm very sure thats right.[/sarcasm]

Joking.

VI's posts are good, they are usually highly funny, even when he is being serious.

We should ask c0ld to implement a new Sarcasm button, so it writes the tags and it highlights it :p

Hummm... What was it before time?

Before it was "time" it was franglopsidine.

The question is moot. Before the "bang" the physical laws could have been (probably were) completely different. The laws of physics (macro and quantum) were created along with everything else at that time. "Time" itself was created along with everything else. There is (was) nothing to compare it to.

No. An EXCLUSIVE [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] tag.

If the universe was be different, physics laws could be different.

Yes but you said it would highlight it, thats what the highlight tags are for ... It could put it in like a quote box, but instead of saying quote it could say sarcasm at the top :D

Anyway, if the laws of physics change then so does the universe, but since we dont know what happened before time we cant actually tell what it was like.

I don't agree. It's not a

p-->q
q-->p thing.

If the universe changes, the laws of physics change. Laws of physics can change but without having the universe chaning, whether they're right or wrong is our problem. :)

The funny thing about physics is that everything has a "simetry". Thats is unchangeable.

If there is "p", "q" will be there too.

Actually if the speed of light was say 1m/s slower then the whole universe would be completely different.
