IIRC, a forum member here actually made the laser rifle. That thing in the video is just a normal CO2 laser cutter "mounted" from the ceiling with what appear to be large zip ties?
Also, regarding focus, nope. Sorry!
SMU-100 dazzle system resembles a standard military rifle but instead of bullets, it fires a laser that can incapacitate a target up to 1km away. It is designed to repel approaching threats in maritime environments without the need to resort to lethal force.
From 500m away, the system can put out a 4m ‘wall of light’, which can cause temporary blindness, disorientation and nausea.
BMS says the system differs from other dazzler systems because the laser ‘scans’ – or continuously moves – over the scene and is not concentrated into a single beam. This means it will not cause long-lasting eye damage, but remains powerful enough to stop pirates approaching vessels.
‘If you have a skiff approaching with pirates in, you can light the whole skiff up from 800m - It’s like trying to look into the sun...
Other situations where the SMU-100 could be a useful tool include crowd control for the police and close quarter fighting for the military.
