What is the difference between multiwave and and single wave marking system and how it effects the marking?

Ok, this has gone long enough with out a smart-ass reply, so I'm gonna go ahead and say it. The difference between a multiwave and singlewave system is that the multiwave one has more waves. :eg:

I've used marking systems for years and its not a term I've come across- maybe some new technology ? (or confusion with the termonology - multimode / single mode?).
