Default Irradia MID Laser Low Level therapy

Dear sirs,

I am physical therapist and I have one medical device Irradia MID laser lllt. I have two probes with the following types 904nm 240mW (4x60mW) and the second is 808nm 900mW. The second probe has problem with the diode, it does not emmeting joules and the front piece of the handpiece is too hot! I opened the handpiece and i measured with a digital multimeter the electronic parts and the measurement at the diode does not seem results. I think that the problem is at the diode but i need your knowledge!
The diode does not write anything. I found is the following diode Search Results : High Power Burning Laser Pointers,DPSS Laser Diode LD Modules, Kinds of laser products , the external dimentions seem the same as the diode the laser has.
I disconnected the wires from the diode and I measured the voltage. The measurement is -5 volts. The diode i found writes orerating voltage 2,2volts. Is it suitable?

thank you!

The 5 volts you are measuring is just the driver trying to put current through something that is not there. You could use 2 1n400x diodes in series as a test load and see what the current is then.

I am not sure what your level of experience with lasers is however, and should point out that these things are VERY dangerous. 900 mW of 808 nm light seems pretty dull to the naked eye, but i can assure you it is enough to cause permanent damage if you were to look into the laser diode or something like that.

I've tried to figure out what your machine is and does. Looks like the light comes out pretty diffussed when installed properly so it's probably not dangerous as such, but it could become so when you tinker with it and put it back the wrong way.

Thank you very much for the information and for the advices! I do not know many things about lasers so what is "2 1n400x diodes" ?
Do you think that this diode i have found is ok?

The 1n400x diode is a general purpose silicon diode, with the x indicating the reverse voltage rating (from 50 volts for 1 to 1000 volts for 7). Two or three of them in series simulate the electrical load presented by a 808nm laser diode - they will not emit any light or anything like that.

If you do not have the basic experience with electronics required to understand this clearly i seriously recommend you do not attempt to replace laser diodes in the equipment yourself.

For the description of the device and your story i presume you will be using this equipment with other people than yourself, in which case you should have the work done by qualified technician.
