I have one of those green laser targets, I like using it to focus my green laser down as much as possible. A quick on/off flash will show the beam size really nicely.

Of course protective goggles are good for this too

try focussing a green laser on a Ti:sapphire crystal. Glow bright red and makes nice ultrashort pulses
