Even more exciting. I just found an article stating that the will be using BLUE laser diodes and a phosphorous material to convert it to white, similar to white LEDs. So I guess we will be having some very high powered blue laser diodes in the near future!
Here is the article in German: BMW entwickelt Laserlicht für das Auto - ATZ online

I suppose these will be huge multimode lasers though -nothing that will be comparable to a proper tem00 laser.

But even if thats the case, i do want the aftermarket focus ring to 'motivate' pedestrians to get out of my way :D

Hehe.. i guess you could just buy replacement headlight units - those must become available since the headlights are likely to break in even a minor accident with any car. I wonder what the price will be though ;)

White Diodes:D

You have to mix colors to get white.

I wouldnt doubt they were the same 445nm diodes we use.

In any event you dont need to buy the whole car, just the replacement part for the headlight.

Edit: You beat me to it Ben.

People already buy headlights just to gut the optics out of them, I don't see how this would be any different. Oddly enough, people prefer Koito optics over the BMW's standby Bosche or ZKW.

Also, I like the photos. The headlight looks like two giant diode junctions
