In a similar test during the SDI years, the beam hit a light sensor which then triggered an explosive charge in the target...

I'm just waiting for the conspiracy theorists to say this has been around for years and is responsible for all spontaneous combustion.
Surely this would have the potential to blind anyone nearby from reflections from the suddenly mysteriously vaporizing car nearby. I was under the impression that military lasers that would pose this risk were banned.
