Aluminum-powder DMLS-printed part finishes race first | Metals content from Machine Design

The second part of the article, why I posted, is more about the process than the competition

Just saw this article after searching for 3D printed metal.
Not only would it be awesome for making precise laser parts, but it uses lasers to make them!
Especially with projects like 3x the new 445s, (to laser drill to earths center I guess) host customization for improved heat sinking in ways that boost conventional sinking tactics. For instance a series of weblike spokes touching at the central axis but fanned(not meaning with a fan on it, but like one would do to napkins for a party) layer by layer within the laser for increased surface area when using a fan(this time I DO mean an actual fan) for active cooling.

Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) Has been around for a while. I have held parts printed in Titanium alloy for jet engines.
