How did he get past security with one of those anyway?

Probably the same way convicts smuggle things into jails/prisons. Wrap it in plastic, and cram it up their ________! ;D ;D

It's really not that hard. I've brought a whole backpack full of stuff before and they didn't even look inside it. They just squeezed and felt it to make sure there was no sharp objects or something :D recently though they do look inside, but don't thoroughly check everything, just peek in.

At all of the concert's I've gone to around here they have metal detectors, some have X-ray machines for bags, and some of them make you empty your pockets and briefly search you (depending on how long the line is). Between the case and the batteries it would set off a metal detector. You could also see it in an x-ray machine. I guess it just depends on how far they go with their security measures at a particular place. For an event that big I guess they aren't as thorough to keep the line moving.

Exactly. Thoroughly search ~80,000 people? I don't think so!

getting one in would be no problem, wear a long sleeve jacket and hold it up the sleeve or tape it to the inside of your shirt, or put it in your pocket

It would still set off a metal detector though.

Well if the idiots keep it up your pointers will go the way of the dodo.

And good riddance, really...

Of course, it would be better if they'd just issue a license requirement instead, and classify it as a felony to possess a laser without a license, but that would require actually thinking.

I just hope they don't extend the inevitable global bans to include stationary and research laser equipment.

Making it a felony possessing a laser pointer is a retarded idea.
Inmate #1 "I'm here for robbery and stabbing a man"
Inmate #2 "I'm here for burglary and arson.
Inmate #3"I'm here cause I got caught with a laser pointer"
::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
Imo it should be a $1,000-$10,000 fine at max depending on what kind of illegal lasers they have.

If they actually shine the lasers at planes or w/e then charge them with a felony.

Let me correct you:

Inmate #3 "I'm here for illicit import of a concealed long-range weapon without a licence and carrying it without a licence."

Otherwise, the others could go:

Inmate #2 "I'm here for borrowing something and having a bonfire."
Inmate #1 "I'm here for asking a guy for money and getting annoyed when he didn't give it to me."

But, yeah, you're right. Carrying shouldn't be a felony the first time around. Using one without a licence should be.
