Default Wicked Lasers goggles

Hello all. I am on the verge of my first high powered laser(Arctic spyder III G2). I'm not really into the laser hobby, but I did enjoy my 200mw green for a few years before the driver puked out and I started looking into a replacement and found how cheap the blue lasers are now. I have done a LOT of reading mostly on this forum about the Arctic pros and cons and decided on it anyway simply because I like the host and I can live with the lower output.

My question is about the glasses that are included. I have read that the supplied WL glasses are not a good choice for a laser of the G2's magnitude. Let me state that I would NEVER look into the beam or even a reflection of a beam on a window or mirror with any goggles on, but accidents can happen and from what I have read, this thing deserves all the respect one would give a loaded gun.

So are the WL goggles ok to use if one ONLY uses them to look at the beam on a wall? What about close up diffused reflections? Would a set of Eagle Pairs be the ticket and toss the WL glasses?

Thanks to know you're concerned.
First of all, Welcome to LPF, Delorean Geek!
You should get better goggles.. The included ones aren't any good as I read too. Some good googles as the Eagle pair are VERY good and for an affordable price ($50) can protect your eyes from anything around 370~560nm. Pm Garoq, he has some goggles.

Beware and ALWAYS lase safe!

Thank you very much! I found a pair of correct E.P.'s for 40.00 shipped. I will keep the WL glasses to wear when showing the laser to friends(who will be wearing the Eagle pairs)

Nah, just beware with that goggles. They aren't any good. Buy more eagle pair goggles if you want to show off anything.

Wicked Lasers 445nm Goggles specs

This thread has a specifications sheet for specific wavelengths, If you look at the bottom of the PDF the % transmittance is somewhere between 11.3 and 12.7 for 445nm

This means if your laser is 1000 mw you are going to be passing about 100mw of laser light through

Remember that 5mw is all that it takes to cause damage

Thank you very much for the link. I know they are sending different glasses out now. I wonder if the newer glasses are at least OD 2. I guess I will just wear them when driving at night...or when I want to look like Phillip Stark.

Anyway, I got my Eagle pairs on the way.

That's good news, so now I have 2 pairs, one decent pair of WL Glasses, one very good Eagle pair. My SpyderIII laser should be here tomorrow, and my Eagle pairs will be here by the weekend.

the 'decent' goggles from wicked can be used for <100mW lasers I think.
oh sorry, with 10% transmittance you can only use with <50mW

I'm assuming I will be getting the better WL glasses as this laser was ordered in November. By "decent" I meant that hopefully I will be getting the better glasses but I will just have to look at the lens color and see the "dot" on a wall to know.

Well, the WL goggles will let you see 'much more' than the dot. Some say that the goggles are better now, WL have been making good ones (OD >4 I think) so, I still recomend the eagle pair.

Everything arrived today, the Arctic, and the Eagle Pair goggles. It looks like I lucked out, I got the newer battery and the newer goggles but I think I like the Eagle Pairs better.

The WL goggles are just too dark, you can't see anything with them on. Eagle Pairs are much better, but I'm glad I have 2 pairs just the same.
