My rayfoss 100mW green has arrived today but they forgot to add the glasses. I tried it inside but didn't really look at the dot or not for long, only in pheripheral vision on a nonwhite nonreflective surface. I brought it out to direct sunshine and tried the focusing ring on a sunlit wood surface 5-10meters far. I guess they'll give me the goggles but that's another month.

Until then what is considered safe activity with the laser?

I don't want to f.up my eyesight so it's in the drawer for now. I guess stargazing is ok and pointing it to infinity outside?

I'll also want to write a review but I guess I need to wait for the goggles or close my eyes when burning but I don't want to do that because then I'll burn my fingers accidentally :D

Use it outside carefully, and as long as You keep it trained on objects 100' you'll be ok.

' = feet. You can also get glasses in the U.S. if that's where you live, and they'll get to you much sooner than from china.

The best thing you can do by far.... which is the absolute hardest is to not use it

Anyways. Use it carefully like others said on distant objects. Stay clear of aircraft and buildings.

Faona replied, admitted it's their fault. Will send them for free. But then I want to purchase a violet 20mW from them too, let something else be in the package not just the goggles :D Okay I'll use it only outside then till I get the goggles.

100mw? I don't see that as being to bad as long as you don't look into the beam, but i'm not a laser expert, seems to me glancing up for a ms at the sun would be much worse.

Outdoors I would think you would be fine, just don't point it at a mirror or eyeball or airplane, window, yadda yadda..

I would not trust any lasers output with out putting it on a LPM though.

then again better safe than sorry, you cant really fix your eyes if you scar them or burn out some cones lol

I made them put an IR filter in it then the actual output measure was 90mW.

90mW is not safe! 5mW is the maximum that is considered safe. You'll have to be careful if you decide to play with it before you get the glasses. One slip up can ruin your eyes with no chance of repair the damage will last for the rest of your life.

I stand corrected, you are correct. Wait for the shades

I did not really mean safe I meant reasonably safe taking some precautionary measure but the best precaution would be to wait.

It's so tempting to not use goggles, but it's always when you think you're safest that the accidents occur. The incidents of "oh shit, I nearly lost my eyes," especially when it was the pair of goggles that saved you, are what really hit home.

Yes I can relate, I used to hate to wear my Kevlar pot, seemed pointless as it wont stop much and a boony cap is not as hot, till i was in Balad one day in a chow line, I had it on and a 104mm soviet rocket decide to land a few feat away, I would not be here talking had I not been wearing it.

outside though and like 90mw don't seem so bad imo, inside walls reflect but air don't. Point it in the sky for crimmany sake you should wait to play but I would test it, thats thats just me though. or IMHO :p
