What color?
What should be minimum width of beam to be effective?
Surely laser visibility is lower in daylight.
If anyone has experience in this matter, I would be grateful for answers.

There was a lpf-er who lased some birds in the daytime with a 50mw green. Worked pretty well.

I have used a little 5mw green I have to scare the birds off my blueberry bushes. As soon as the dot hits a leaf , they scatter!

Little berry thieving critters .

How about those cheap dollar store reds ?
They would work just fine IF you throw them hard enough !
Sorry. I couldn't resist.

Anything that is clearly visible to the birds should be enough to startle them or surprise them a few times and cause them to flee.
But with enough exposure they will lose their fear, just like any other form of deterent.
The real problem is how to keep it from becoming commonplace.
