True DX30 and DIY Red - How dangerous?

3d glasses do block pracitcly all light, the dot is very dim but anything above that power can melt thru them. You could take two red lenses from them and put them together but please dont use that as a subsittue for real laser glasses, sure it would help and its better than nothing but its still not very good.
The only bad thing about lasers is that the dot is so small that even if you eye is dialated big or small about the same amount of light will go thru, unless the laser has bad divergance and your far away from it.

Check around the BST section. there's always someone or the other selling a used pair of wicked shades anywhere from $25-$35.
Reflections off white walls gives me headaches at times. I am not sure if it is IR leakage reflection or my eyes gets tired due to the brightness. This is with my DX30.
But with a 100mW green, not wearing protective glass is nearly impossible for me. Reflections off white walls are too bright for me to look at for any sustained period. It is almost like looking at 1mW of green or more if 1% is reflected directly back into your eyes.
I just had an 1 sec exposure to the reflection of a 100mW green laser off a white wall. Now my eyes are tired and I have a slight headache. Might be some temporary damage there
But then again, I've had quite a few of these exposures before and my vision is still fine.
I have also suffered long period white wall reflection from a DX30 with no issues to my vision. Did get a minor headache when I used it for quite awhile in a dark room.
Direct exposure of anything >5mW is not eye-safe. That's why they have laser classification systems. Supposedly, your blink reflex is able to safe your from longer exposures to <5mW.
Meaning for a short direct exposure to 30mW, eye damage will occur regardless of your blink reflex.
Also prolonged exposure to <5mW will also cause eye damage if you don't blink.
