Tourism with lasers?

Hello people, I will be traveling to France and Italy tonight and was thinking if I should take my 1 W 445 with me. Does anyone know if there might be a chance for the laser to be confiscated at the airport? I mean, it looks like a flashlight and it's batteries and charger will also be taken with me but separated from the actual laser. Is this a good idea, or should I just enjoy my holidays without my beautiful laser? Thanks for your input in advance!

If You place it in Your checked bags without the battery installed it might make it through, but If it was Me I would leave it at home. Your choice.

You're right. Why take the risk when i'm only going to be away for around 10 days... I'd rather miss them and use them when I get back. Thanks!

What if you put the top half in your checked luggage and carried on the bottom on the plane with you? I cant see how that would be a problem.

The chances of getting your bags checked by security is slim, I've taken mine in my checked luggage thru europe and had no problems. as long as it doesnt look like to have wires and an alarm clock stuck to it you should be safe

Anytime I travel, I bring a few lasers with me, but they are always the cheapest ones that I wouldn't mind losing and/or breaking while on the trip.
I usually put one in my checked luggage (with batteries, box, charger, etc...), and one in my carry-on (usually a small keychain one with keys attached so it looks like a pen-light).
I wouldn't put a +$200 laser in my checked luggage knowing how much they are thrown around by the baggage handlers (or mis-handlers).

I have had the flash lights in my pockets inspected in Hamburg airport once, maybe because my cell charger and a bag of pipe cleaners in my bag looked like wire and coil for something nefarious.

They just turned them on, saw they lighted up and returned them.
A laser might get a different reaction.

I'm planning on buying an Olight SR90 soon... Besides the obvious fact that it wouldn't fit in a pocket, I think that might get a different reaction from security as well. Seeing as the low mode is 700lm, as quoted in the marketing materials... You don't want to know the high mode. :crackup:

Would it be okay to shine the laser on buildings at night or if the police sees the laser, they will confiscate it?

As long as it's not explosive or a fire hazard you can bring it in your checked luggage. you can even bring weapons, certain ones have to be checked a head of time though.

If you took the lens out it would look more like a flashlight if they turned it on. Just put the lens in your checked bags.
Tell them it is for invisible florescent ink or something.
