[TEST] Cheap red laser glasses from banggood

Hello !
Here is a REALLY quick test, just to inform you guys that those glasses which are supposed to protect from red laser are aweful !

I use a 250mW (not sure about that, I bought it from the same website, here)
To focus the laser they are fine but when talking about direct hit, look at that :

I don't have a LPM but I think it's safe to say that these glasses are bad !

You mean its safe to say they are bad:)
Did you get the right pair as the sight shows a green pair for red laser's?
Also on one review they mention they can see the beam much better for good to focusing?:thinking:

Well I saw here that I need dark green glasses for 650/660nm lasers. Plus it says 600-700nm on banggood.

I guess he meant dot ^^

At the end banggood refunded me and I guess I'll buy Eagle pair ones.
It's just that since I'm in Europe I have a lot of shipping fees.

You kidding me I was born in the US and your english better than mine:)
Red laser glasses are tricky when buying the cheaper kind compared to blue or green laser ones that are somewhat better than nothing.
Some have mentioned that even though they don't work for 650nm and up they do work for the 638nm.
If they just refunded you and still have the glasses I would try.
Stay away like the link you just showed as I bought a cheap blue pair and they did nothing also with my red laser.
Yup go with the Eagle pair instead of wasting money on shipping for something that doesn't work...

Try what ? I only have a 405nm and some 650/660nm lasers, I'm a newbie :D

Yeah, that's what I'm going to do.
I'm gonna buy some Eagle pair or those ones (the LSG08. I would prefer to buy those ones since there's way less shipping fees, but I didn't see any review on it, plus the sight is not valuable).

Anyway, thanks for your help :)

The typical red laser is usually a 650nm to 660nm wavelength as in cat toy pointers and the ebay pen types. I might of jumped the gun by saying to try a 638nm as you are a newbie. Thats just a lower range red color more towards orange. If you stay with the hobby you might come across one at some point.
Yes those Dragon laser's glasses are in the good catagory:)

I've both seen and used those goggles before, not sure why they're advertised for red. They're meant to block or at least dim 405nm IIRC, but either way just like most laser components from China I'd throw them in the crap pile :p

Yeah that's exactly what I did :D


I'm going to test those ones next, with the money they refunded me. I asked them (you can see it in the questions tab a the bottom of the page) if they were enough for a 2.5W laser and they said yes :crackup:

Relative brightness on photo's can be VERY deceptive, but this seems to let a LOT of light through. Just to get things clear: that dot on the wall is like that before you actually burn a hole through the goggles?

If the laser is actually 250 mW at the goggles absorb most of the light the plastic would heat up quite a bit - maybe not enough to burn a hole, but it'd get notacibly warm on the spot for sure, and probly go soft.

There is no hole in goggles and they don't even heat !
The light just go through it.
The dot is a bit dimmer after going through them but that's all.

Doesn't sound too good then, no idea about how much or little protection these offer without measurements.

I've done some tests with 1 watt 445 against cheap goggles that block green and blue. Those actually absorbed a very decent amount of light, and took about a minute to burn through at 1 watt beam power.

The latter may not seem all that good (they are cheap plastic things after all) but actually is not that bad either, you're not going to look straight into a powerful laser (even wearing goggles) when you have any idea what you are doing in the first place.
