Default Sunglasses

If you don't have regular laser glasses can you were sunglasses to at least protect from looking at the dot or if you are light a match just to dim the light.

No! They will not filter the light from the laser, but will dilate your pupils allowing even more harmful laser light into your eyes than if you had no glasses on in the 1st place. Get goggles designed for your laser!

They do dilate your pupils, but only slightly. They do block some light, or else they wouldn't work in the sun ;D

They are still NOT SUITABLE for laser protection, but I still believe they are better than absolutely nothing. But not by much

This simply doesn't make sense. Its not like when you put the sunglasses on the brightness of the laser is completely unaffected by the tinting. Yes, your eyes will slightly dilate when putting sunglasses on. In theory, yes this will let more light into your eyes. BUT the laser itself is also dimmer due to the tinting on the lenses. Don't get me wrong, I think sunglasses are horrible laser protection, but the idea that wearing them would actually cause MORE light to get in than if you weren't wearing them is just kind of ridiculous.

Think about it, if wearing sunglasses allowed MORE light to come in (based on pupil dilation) then they wouldn't work at all in the sun and everyone's eyes would be frying.

This matter was already discussed in the past. (like last year)
Sunglasses will make your pupils dilate and of course they block a certain amount of light, but they will not block out a lot of the laser light. If they don't block out a lot of the laser light and they make your pupils dilate then more light is getting into your eye than it would if you didn't have any glasses at all.
That's why that ugly ;D sunglasses video was made, to show that sunglasses will not block a lot of laser light and you're in danger when wearing them.

They will actually block blu-ray light, but nothing else than that. So if you have a hi power blu-ray, you will only need a pair of inexpensive sunglasses when using it.
I think this have to do with the fact that sunglasses block UV rays, and the wavelength of blu-ray is pretty close to UV. But for other colours, get a pair of real safety glasses!

Yes, we all know that UV blocking sun glasses serve as bluray safety goggles, there's a thread about it, we're talking about the rest of the wavelengths.

You will NOT get more light into your pupils with them on than you would without them. It just doesn't make sense. Like I said, does the sun hurt your eyes MORE with sunglasses on? Of course not. Do you pupils still dilate? Yes. Again I want to stress that I 100% agree that sunglasses are horrible for laser protection. BUT you cant say that MORE light gets into your eyes with them on compared to when they're off.
