So I was on vacation in California a few days ago minding my business in the hotel just before I was about to go asleep, I saw a green dot on the ground out the window of my hotel (I was on the third floor). So I looked out the window to see who it was, I could tell that it was below me. I looked down and sure enough, a guy had a green laser. He was spamming everything with it, cars, people... I was 99% sure it was this one YouTube - 30mW Kaleidoscopic Green Laser from BudgetGadgets When he put a cap on the front of it. Then, a moment later, he pointed it directly into my window and right into my eyes. I went and put my goggles on (yes, I brought goggles/lasers with me on vacation) and tried to get my moms camera out so I could take a picture of him but by the time I had he had already gotten in a cab. I was so god damn pissed off.

I'm gonna go to the eye doctor asap when I get home. At this point I have not noticed any blurred spots in my vision and I don't remember seeing any kind of after-image that night. I really hope I don't have eye damage.

You should of rang the taxi company to find out who the passenger was and where they got dropped off !!!

I don't think they would provide that information unless you had a lawyer or had the police check the records. That would be the only way really.

I very much doubt that you have any permanent damage, if it indeed was the 30mw kaleidoscope. Since the diffraction grating splits the original beam into so many, each split beam probably is <5mw (if it is the 30mw), but still get it checked out just in case.

He had taken the cap off..:(

That sucks when people abuse lasers like that:(
However I'm sure your eyes are fine. 3 stories up he and was out on the street. I'm sure by that time, the beam had diverged to baseball size or more. Plus you were behind a glass window. Probably double pain glass, if you were in a half way decent hotel.

It hard to determine the dot size when the dot is spread out across your face. I'm sure divergence helped you out on that one.

Was the cap on when you got the eye shot?
How subjectively bright did it seem?

There's really no point in going to the eye doctor unless you actually notice something wrong. If it did a slight amount of damage and you never notice it then all the doctor will do is get you worried about it and waste your money. If you were on the third floor and he hit you with an underspec poorly diverged green laser there's a very good chance that it didn't do damage anyway.

Plus you dont want to freak out your parental units. Mom might tell you no more lasers only because she loves you:angel:

ALWAYS go to the doctor when you know you've been hit. He can see damage that you can't. Never assume that you don't have damage that needs to be taken care of!

lol "Parental Units"

^^^ ROTFLMAO ^^^

This is for certain the wrong Forum for that!!! Please Wash Your mind before continuing to browse here.

How is knowing about a burn on the retina that will never go away going to make any difference? I have a perm. burn in both eyes from laser hits. Do they bug me, occasionally but for the most part my brain has wired itself to completely ignore them. Is the doc going to be able to HEAL the inside of your eye? No.
