Safety glasses from a US seller?

Sorry if this has been asked.
I searched and I could not find anything.
I know there are a lot of reviews here on safety glasses, and whats good and whats not.

I am in need of a pair of safety glasses for a green laser. (532nm)

The thing is, I do not want to order from any more china sellers. I don't care if the glasses are china made..... I just do not want to wait a month to get my glasses.

I am building a green laser (100mW 532nm)
I should get the module this week.

I would like to put the laser together and start using it,
I don't really want to wait 2-3 weeks or more for china shipping
(I already have one package in shipment from china, and that hasn't been going so well. I do not want to order another package from china right now.)

Does anyone know of any US sellers that sell these safety glasses? Or is anyone looking to get rid of any safety glasses?

Perhaps scopeguy can get you a pair of red-lensed goggles. With mine, I can see the dot AND the surface that it's shining on very well, while without the goggles all I see is a huge green blob the size of a tennis ball.

I know, that's not the most scientific description, but it's what I have to work with. My laser was laserbee'd at around 160mW.

Check in the laser pro shop, IIRC.

Those Chinese sellers are just selling red illumination goggles; they're basically a pair of safety goggles with red plastic as a filter. They're used to make it easier to see red light, particularly from red laser levels, etc. but also do a fine job filtering out green. Try going to a local hardware store and ask if they have any red goggles for sale. One thing to note is that they may filter the green out a little too well, making it hard to see where the dot is. I've used them with an 80mW greenie, and the dot is sooo incredibly dim, like the diode dot from a burnt-out red.

Thank you, just ordered a set of Style 35 ELP. Not cheap at almost $150 shipped but you only get one set of eyes. Mine were lasered on purpose when I had LASIK 6 years ago. I'd rather not do it again on accident...

There multi wavelength aswell.

I dont know if they sent me the wrong pair but the ones i got block multi wavelengths mainly green amd it is not only printed on the glasses themselfs but in the info sheet that came with them aswell which came from NoIr.

They do block multiple wavelengths; OD 5+ @ 190-380nm and OD 2+ @ 400-532nm. The OEM Laser Systems goggles do this, plus common red and IR wavelengths (640-660nm, 808nm, 980nm...).

Yup, that's one of the reasons why I ordered the ELP instead of the AL2 which is what WL sells. The ELP is OD 6+ at 532nm (what I have now) and OD 5+ 405nm (what I'm building as soon as the BDR-205 shows up).

AL2 - KTP, Argon, Blu Ray Protection AL2 - KTP, Argon, Blu Ray Protection [NR-AL2-00FDA] - $71.40
ELP - UV, Blu Ray, KTP Green Protection ELP - UV, Blu Ray, KTP Green Protection [NR-ELP-00FDA] - $139.40

EDIT: Changed order to ARG as per recommendation from Tony @ OEM Laser Supply. Half the price, better protection, and shorter lead time.

1. Your math is off by $1.00.

2. Those glasses aren't OD-rated so you really don't know how effective they are. Could be OD 2-3 and a great deal, could be nothing at all.

3. I wouldn't trust an IR filter that only claims to be 85% effective if I was working with something that I knew had significant IR output (as a 100mW Green will have).

If there is one place NOT to cut corners it's your eyes.

I've got OEM LASER SYSTEMS ML-7's. I think they're the best safety shades for hobby laserists. At $156.00 shipped, they aren't cheap, but neither is my eye-sight. rob

These should be called "professional red visibility goggles" since they're made to make it easier to see red light. I have, and have used these, but they work almost too well. 100mW of green will look like a faint dot on the wall, and they don't impede IR at all.

Filter - $0.99

An 85% blocking filter is roughly equivalent to OD 0.8 protection, which means you can only tolerate about 33mW of IR before it goes beyond the 5mW unsafe levels.

Those filters are really just meant for preventing IR from messing up a digital camera's photos. Who even knows how they'll hold up to sustained amounts of IR, especially from lasers. It may just be a coating, which could degrade or bleach from use.

I bought two of those ML7s in a group buy. Really nice goggles, with heavy IR protection, and they're not over-blocking for green light. They work for low-powered reds as well.

You need to ask yourself: are your eyes worth going on the cheap with protection?

They are very comfortable, and work a bit better (and look a lot better) than the cheap Dragon Lasers ones found here :cool:
