Question about my eyes and my green laser

Tonight was my first night in awhile where I had some free time.
So, Since I bought some wicked laser safety glasses from a LPF members here, i decided I would try out my new laser out with a set of fresh batteries.

I got a small piece of electrical tape and began to burn it while wearing my glasses and had it leaning against a brown cardboard box.

It burns great but, after doing this for about 1 min, I notice that after I am done, my eyes feel kind of strained. Its like i have a small amount of pressure behind them and around the top of my noise. Sorry its hard to explain but, I guess its like the beginning of a very slight headache.

Anyway, I have never taken a direct hit or even a strong reflection from my laser. I am always very careful. The glasses seem to work fine. I only see a faint orange dot while looking through them. Could this feeling be coming from the IR of my laser? Is there a way to measure or see the Ir using my digital camera? I just want to make sure I am being safe. I believe the glasses have a rating of OD 2.0

I'm sure you're Ok there. Where did you get the laser (who made it)?

The 1st few times I played with mine, I also had the sensation afterward similar to that after a camera flash (say cheese! * ..whut?, I can't see!).

I think you'll get used to it. Continue being careful.

edit: Now I notice your sig.. If it's that Optotronics, I'm sure you're Ok.

Thanks for the input. I guess my eyes are just a tad overly sensitive to green light or something. I did hear someone talking about there was a way to see how much Ir light is coming through my laser. I think the way they said to check was by using a 2 litter coke bottle. shinning the laser through it so only the IR would filter through and then use a digital camera to view it. Does that ring a bell with anyone?

why do you want to filter it with coke, you have goggles right? just shine the laser through them and look at the dot that remains with a digital camera.

Anyway, the headache you're feeling is most likely caused by the fact that suddenly the world turned red, you're for sure fine ;)

Yours,
Albert
