Is it normal that glasses don't block out ALL...

So i got my awesome oem laser systems goggles that protect against 630-650 with an OD of 2+ today.
I know a 200mw dilda is 660nm, but still everyone said it would be okay. When I shined it through the goggles to test, it was A LOT dimmer which is good, and when I put them on, the dot didn't make my eyes sore anymore. Should these glasses be good?

Why do people do that? It's like testing your new helmet by smashing it with a hammer... You get to know how much the helmet can withstand, but you break it and lose any safety you might have had. Shining a laser through safety goggles bleaches the dyes in them and makes them less effective.

Anyways, OD2 should be good for a 200mW, yes you should still be able to see the dot through the glasses, though it should appear to be less than 5mW. Where did you get these goggles? Do you know if they're really OD2? Are they certified?

He got the OEM Laser Systems goggles. They're certified and rated.

Yep, those goggles are legit. It's normal to be able to see the dot still, though the dot you see should have an apparent brightness of less than 5mW. In the future, try not to point your laser at your goggles, it damages them.

don't worry, I'm not retarded. I didn't really point it at them. I just swiped it through them one time for less than a second just to check for myself that what I am getting is safe.

You should be seeing about 2mW on a direct exposure to 200mW. Still 2mW is very bright shot right into your eyes. It'll make you blink.

Anyway, this is for anyone who purchases the hobby/education glasses. If you must blast the glasses with a direct shot to see how well they work (even though that is what the OD rating tells you) then shoot the glasses through the part that goes over your ear. The entire polycarbonate eyewear is infused with the protective dyes so hit them where your eyes will never be.
