Default Noob, Laser Safety Help, No glasses

First, I have no experience with lasers, which is why I am here. Please forgive my ignorance.

REASON FOR LASER:
I ride dirt bikes in the mountain behind my house. In case I get stuck/hurt I have a GPS beacon which allows me to message my roommates of my location and that I need help. However, the GPS location is sometimes pretty inaccurate. Last time I got a flat in the dark and asked for help it took my roommates 2+ hours to find my exact location. I need a very bright laser to point into the sky (at night mostly) so my roommates can find me faster.

WHAT I GOT:
I spent 60$ and bought a thor M2 laser. Link here

(Thor M II 2 Adjustable Laser Pointer 445nm 450nm Blue Laser Burn Match Paper | eBay)

It was the first high powered laser I saw so I got it. After some research looks like a green laser would have been easier to see and the better choice. To late now this will have to do.

The specs for the laser are in the link. It says wavelength is 450nm and power is 1400mw.

SAFETY:
I WILL NOT be using safety glasses. The purpose is purely signaling in the sky and possibly pointing towards the general location of my friends from afar. I do not have any more room for glasses in my backpack while riding.

QUESTIONS:
1. What is the maximum I can do with this laser with NO glasses without hurting myself or others.
1A. Is pointing it in the sky and looking at the beam in the sky alright?
1B. Is pointing the laser pointer at a nearby hill to signal ok?
1C. Is pointing the laser pointer towards my friends to signal them from a distance ok?
1D. At what point will this laser begin to hurt my eye with no glasses. i.e. pointing the laser at a wall and looking at the dot 20ft away? Will that cause damage? 5ft away? etc?

2. If this laser does not work for me (not bright enough, etc) could you guys please suggest some better lasers that will work for my situation? Thanks.

A 532nm is what you would want
There is a sticky on the forum regarding laser safety. Read it and use your best judgement.
http://laserpointerforums.com/f75/ start here
Edit: the pattern caps that were included with that laser would be good to have on you. Keep one on the laser to keep debris from getting on the focus lens. It will also spread out the light and somewhat diffuse the intensity of the beam. I still suggest getting a cheap 532nm pointer for your stated intention. The pattern caps should really throw the light out.

I would avoid pointing to the sky, maybe use a strobe signal, and green is much more visible but lasers lose their Rayleigh scattering visibility from the side, that is when viewed perpendicular to the beam it disappears quickly, Rayleigh scattering is most visible in line with the beam and dissipates quickly from the side, a person could signal by sweeping in a cone pattern, but I would not point to the sky if you are within 10 miles of an airport or if there are any aircraft in the sky. It's a very serious crime to point at an aircraft or even in it's pathway.

Thanks for the tips. I am no where near an airport and am in a pretty secluded area. I'm not to worried about aircraft or getting in trouble as this would only be used in an emergency anyway. What type of strobe do you mean that would be better than a laser? Just a normal strobeing flashlight? I would need it to go pretty high in the sky to get over decent size hills so my roommates could see it.

Thanks for the help, sounds good I'll buy a cheap 532nm and try that as well. Maybe it will be better. Will one of those cheap looking 303 lasers work you think?

If im stuck in a little valley Id have to go to the top for them to see me. When I was riding in the oceano dunes I was trying to find my friend, he had a very bright laser and pointed it up and waved it around and I saw it clearly from like half a mile away. I know a flashlight wouldnt do that well. At least I dont think so, Ill head over to survival laser tho and check out their stuff. Sounds cool lol
