Default Need help to evaluate goggles

I've got a pair of goggles for 650nm,it's the same one zonestealth is selling, but I didn't find anyone on the forum that got his goggles for red laser, only for 532nm and "multi wavelength"( :).I've took some pics, first it was with a cheap laser pointer,in the photo the dot is almost not visible by eye,and the camera didn't take it,also when pointing it directly to my eye with the goggles it's weaker than looking directly to a incandescent light bulb. The other photos are with the DX 200mw red laser, with a tiny dot. What do you guys think,is it like OD1,OD2?I don't think it gets to OD3 although zonestealth sells it as OD4+

Sorry man but its utterly impossible to tell from just pics like that. First off youd need to hold everything constant - exposure, aperture, sensitivity, etc. And even then you'd still get something along the lines of 'its definitely OD 5 (+/- 10 OD)'

I have IR goggles in that style though that I got off eBay. I'd watch out because they let through considerably more power than the OD rating suggested.

Well,it's sold as OD4+,for me OD2 would be enough,as my most powerful red laser have 318mw(so 3.18mw would escape from a direct exposure),even with less than OD2,something like 95% is already safe,as direct exposure is unlikely.I will make new pics with everything constant so people can better see how well it's blocking.

What he meant is that you can't tell from just pics, it's impossible, you need to have the proper equipment to test the goggles' OD rating.

What I understood is that if I was to use pics to evaluate OD ratings it should at least follow those guidelines, but even like that it's not precise. At least they are better to guess the OD rating than the pics I put before. :P

Well if I was to guess then I'd say is OD2 - OD3, but there are way to many factors it's impossible to have a good guess.
What you could do is to at least get access to a laser power meter, measure the output of a laser, then shine it through the goggles and measure how many mW are getting through. If you do that then you could get a better idea of what the goggles' OD rating is.

Yep, where OD value = log(attenuation factor)

CC fully tested these goggles on my request!

He found they had no where near the correct OD but were good for greens and blues with small IR leaks.

I can post links to the thread and vid if you want?

edit: sorry CC tested the 'multi wavelength' ones not the red ones....

sorry....
