Default Need Help

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding laser safety. Last night, a family member bought my little brother who is 7 a laser pointer from the market (Im currently in China). To my knowledge, he's only used it twice, once last night, and once today in my presence when I immediately snatched it from him. When I saw him use it, there was a clear laser beam and the dot was too bright when I looked at it, so I immediately knew it was dangerous and took it from him. Right now, im worried that he might've got it in his eyes by accident while using it and if the laser is strong enough to cause any type of noticeable or unnoticeable eye damage.

I dont know much about lasers, and just found this website through google.

The laser itself says Max output power: <2000

Wavelength: 532 nm + or - 10

Class IIIB

So, how strong is this laser? Ive also included pics. Any type of help/input is appreciated, Thanks!

This is a standard laser 303. These lasers can range in power, from 10mw to the extremely unlikely 100mw. Being very careful, see if it can etch anything. This is dangerous if you don't have glasses, but it you are quick, smart about it, and don't shine it at something reflective, your fine.
About your kid, he probably didn't shine it in his eye, imo. Most kids don't try that from what I've seen but you never know.

These aren't very dangerous in the hands of a responsible person with common sense but certainly not eye safe, so I don't feel it is 7 year old safe either.

I was at Williamsburg VA this one time and I brought my ~5-10mW green laser pen from eBay on the trip. The dot was bright enough to be seen on the ground right in front of me in bright day light. As I walked around looking at all the cool colonial houses, this one kid (looked 10) saw my small laser pen and asked to see it. I said ok but told him to not point it at other people and I let him hold it. After pointing it at the ground a bit, he randomly pointed it in his eye for almost two seconds. I almost yelled at him but I hesitated (not being the type to raise my voice). I took it from him and just walked away not knowing what to say. I felt pretty dumb and decided not to hand even my smaller lasers to people I didn't know anymore.

Though, with your situation, I would assume the laser would be bright enough that a 7 year old wouldn't point it in his eye.
