I bought a 300MW green laserpointer off eBay . I think I got ripped off. It only made a dim red glow so I looked at the end to see if I could see anything wrong. Now when I close my left eye there's a funny spot in my vision.

Can I do anything about it? :(

Please visit an eye doctor! That red light was high power inferred light! You have most probably damaged your vision. We are not doctors so please visit one for professional advise. Is there any distortion to your vision when your eye is open?

Don't answer or ask any more questions about it here.

GET TO THE EYE DOCTOR!
Tell him/her what happened

GO NOW!

Peace,
dave

Indeed, i agree with the above, and would recommend going ASAP. If there is anything that can still be done about it, chances of recovery are better the sooner you get it checked out and cared for.

Also, i'd recommend going straight to a hospital as a GP is unlikely to know what to do except for referring you to a specialist.

this is a pure knee slapper. i feel so bad for what you may have done to yourself, but with the amount of info available on HP green pointers/DPSS green, i guess its a benevolent dream that ppl will not be... jackasses like this.

sorry to be so blunt but its true, its too easy to point out the relative of staring down the barrel of a loaded gun.

scale the life threatening factor of a slug down to threaten the life of your intact retina, and youve got a perfect example lols.

sorry to raff at you, i know ive done stupid shit, but ive never looked directly into a high powered laser pointer to see why it wasnt working.

please go see a doctor, and WHY IS INFRARED BAD?

Well, i happened, so its something to be dealt with right now.

Obviously there should have been warnings, background information and what not, but apparantly none of it helped to prevent this situation.

Normally seeing 'spots' after a laser hit wouldn't be immediate cause for major alarm, but since this was cause by IR, i would be worried since its not a normal 'negative after image' effect that happens when you look into a bright light (like a halogen spot or flashlight etc).

Is the spot pitch black? Then it's a permanent burn in the retina. Is it a blurry kind of grey? Then it will eventually heal (may take months though)

ouch kinda off topic but i got hit near the eye with my safety glasses on and it did not stop my 445nm, my eyebrow got very warm very quick. i kinda thought about making duct tape glasses but i think it will burn threw that to....
If you ever get hit with anything over 40mw go to your doctor, don't be the one driving.
It is not a good idea the whole depth perception being off and all.

Wow, warm through the glasses? You NEED better goggles. That must be atleast 50mw coming through. What kind of goggles are you using, and what current is your 445 set to?

i do not know they were given to my by a friends father, he said they would work for all the visible light.
I had it set for some out side distance testing around 990mw-1020mw.
I don't have a lpm as of yet but i don't think anything should ever be in front of one of these lasers. On a dry clear night i could see the beam for huge distances. was never not able to see it.
i am thinking om making some new glasses that should help.
got the idea from a old car.

kinda like that soo you can only see whats in front of you but any laser not at that angle will be block of course my glasses will still be behind them.
I think they will look cool.

eye surgeon right now. They can probably relieve the swelling at the back of the eye. The sooner the better, waiting a day could mess you up more.

GO NOW!

LOL! pretty sure beams would make it through/reflect off and behind that setup :)

It could be damage from leaking infra-red. Any damage would probably be apparent as a blind spot. It may heal naturally. Anyway, go to an opthalmologist and get your eye checked as a matter of urgency.

Are you still there? I'm sending you an email just in case you haven't gone to the doctor yet. A sense of urgency here is a must. The faster you get in, the better off you are.

Eh this is probably a troll. I mean who looks down the barrel of a 300mw laser with it turned on? What if it just had a flaky connection and it suddenly turned on pointing into your eye? Sorry, but I have trouble believing somebody would actually do this.

It's almost having a loaded gun that won't fire and then looking down the barrel while pulling the trigger repeatedly.
