We NEED more government here in the USA. More government employees enforcing more laws. That will make us safe for sure.
Big Government = Security and Freedom ................You will get neither.

A government big enough to do everything for you is big enough to take everything from you:beer:

I'm sorry but a five year prison sentence for shining what is basically a bright light at a plane half a mile away or more, is utterly ridiculous.

I'm not condoning it, but a sense of proportion wouldn't be amis.

Might be a european perspective though - the US is known for draconic prison sentences for offenses that would get you little more than a fine in many european countries.

Al in all they have managed to throw about 1% of the population in jail, where in continental europe that figure is 1 in 1000 or so. Even if you disregard the 75% of prisoners for drug offenses, the US detention rate is still more than double.

I seriously doubt you would get jail time in europe unless the airplane actually crashed, with the UK as an exception.

Sense of proportion ? ..... From judges ? .....

ROTFLMAO ! ...... this is one of the better jokes i've ever seen .....

Sorry, no offense intended to you, but, realistically, from a legal system that, as example, in USA, condemned a woman to 1,95 millions $ of fine for sharing of 24 songs on internet, or that, like here in Italy, turned illegal copy of files from civil to penal charge (said in poor words, now in Italy shooting a person to death and copying illegally a film is the same type of charge :p), what type of sense of proportion, or also just sense of justice, we can expect ? ;)
