Laws for Laser Modules and Parts in Australia (NSW) as of 2014

Gday Laserererer, Thinking that it is the same here in South Oz but at this point in time you can still get pretty much anything as long as it is not a completed laser pointer. I guess the powers that be figure if someone is clever enough to source parts and put it all together then they are (probably?) not stupid enough to point it at aircraft and the like, remember that is what started the stupid laws in the first place!
Also note that in SA at least you are not allowed to own a laser pointer/hand held. Not sure what the dimensions have to be before it is not in that category! So enjoy our limited freedom with the current importation freedoms that we have because if we just get a few more idiots like at the recent cricket test then these rules will tighten and some B#**@ are going to loosen in a jail cell somewhere! Refer to Thread about German jailed for 8 months!

I send many modules to Australia every month and never lost one yet. They have a very efficient post. Actually one of my favorite places to ship with the reliability of the post.:)

@ Laserererer. Was referring to SA but the laws are similar if not the same.

@ DTR Good to hear that DTR. Will be shopping with you in the near future. Really like the look of them 1W 520nm diodes! Might do a couple of smaller less expensive builds just to get my eye in before I do that one though!

Hey laserer,

Just like everyone has said modules and laser parts are fine. I live in aus and I ordered a 9mm diode in a copper module from DTR and it arrived fine :)

DTR's shipping is extremely fast and reliable, shipping should not be a problem

Likewise we have never had a problem shipping any of our parts into Australia.

I have heard of handheld hosts being confiscated, but never modules, drivers and other parts.

From a fellow Aussie who buys many laser parts, I can say that modules, hosts, drivers and diodes are all safe to import. I have bought a few laser modules from DTR, and they have all come through with NO issues
EDIT ^^ I have not had problems with hosts being seized i have bought at least 5, and they are all big custom metal ones but like ARG said it HAS happened that a host has been seized.
