the Canada Post tracking says something similar. for my package it said "International item arrived in Canada and will be reviewed by Customs". Then 6 minutes later "Item was released by Customs and is now with Canada Post for processing". It just sounds like a normal thing to me.

Its most likely an x-ray/random check on the package., every package get through that step.

Yeah, a lot of people freak out when they see this. Since it sounds like a... "HAND IT OVER, BUDDY! GAME OVER!" sorta thing.

In reality, any package can be 'handed over' to customs to check.

However, as far as I know, Australia is rough on lasers compared to other places.

However I also don't think Customs can identify the diode by sight, sure as hell aren't going to power it up and measure it, so you're likely fine.

I would be somewhat cautious... After that step though I would be excited. What diode was it? and if a 445nm how would you use it without paranoia

What would be the problem if it is just a bare diode, not a functional pointer?

I doubt they would hold all packages with laser diodes in them, especially the huge number of shipments that use dvd/bluray drives or projectors as the packaging material :D

Not to mention, even if they figured out the pinout for it, unless it was pressfit into a module WITH a lens already in place, it would just look like a strange LED right? Since it would be uncollimated?

I doubt they would power it up at all... who knows what something actually does when you apply power. If they do, i really want to see videos of them inspecting a shipment airbag inflators :D

lol, ya...I am pretty sure if they were required to power everything up they might not check stuff from Iraq or Afghanistan haha.
