Default IR Filter and Safety Goggles

Hey guys, soon I will be putting together a ~250mW 650nm open can laser. I am gonna use a module from AixiZ, and a driver I made for it. But after reading all these posts about people damaging their vision, I'm getting a little paranoid. I know that a direct hit from the laser will definitely impair someone's vision, but then, what about the IR from the diode? Since it's open can, do I need an IR filter or no?

Also, on the same subject, I don't plan to start until I have goggles, but I have not found ones I like. I have looked at the ones from Wicked Lasers, but the 650nm laser shades they have don't specify the ranged at which they protect you. Anyone know of any good quality goggles I can buy that are not overly pricey?

P.S. Anything but Dragonlasers.

A red laser diode produces NO Infra-Red light. There is no need for an IR filter.

Peace,

Why not Dragonlasers? I have heard positive things about Dragonlasers' red goggles, and they are cheaper than Wickedlasers. Also, for cheap goggles, search around the forums some. I came across a forum about cheap military laser goggles a while ago that looked good.

Nope, just like daguin said there is NO infra-red light coming out of diode lasers. IR from diy reds is just a myth. If you read these basic faq's you'll get what I mean --> http://www.laserpointerforums.com/fo...num=1206843997
