I did but maybe it wasn't clear enough. You're supposed to close your other eye and look at the center dot. If you can see any deformations in the retangles it is a indication of retinal damage. For more info google "amsler grid"

I know this is an older thread but I just got back from a party where someone hit me in the left eye with a 200mw green laser as I entered the front door and I got flash blindness and can see a grey dot on that white chart above (been 5 hours still seeing grey dot).... I just got back from the emergency room where they told me to sleep on it and if it is still bad in the morning I gotta go to a specialist. I freaking hate people. Just tryin to go drink some beers at a buddies and some kid was using my friends laser he made and shined it at me like a retard. I actually helped him make the laser originally. Ironic also how the deuche was wearing safety glasses when he shined me with the laser. I am maybe going to press charges against the kid, but not tryin to get all my friends in trouble at the same time. I really hope that laser is underspec and I do not have permenent eye damage. Its actually hard for me to read/type right now due to this grey dot over everything I try to focus on.

ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WITH THESE LASERS OVER 5MW or DO NOT BUY/OWN ONE. I Know the beams look cool and all but please for the sake of your eye do not. If you really wanna view the beams make sure to shine it at a wall or something opaque nothing shiny or reflective do not risk it and never ever look directly at a laser of any kind with or without glasses as was unintentionally done to me.

It sounds like you have some serious eye damage. You really should see a specialist, the sooner the better. I'd press charges because he knows about safety glasses but knowingly pointed the laser at you. Stupid won't be an excuse here.

Thats not very helpful either then! I guess ER staff needs to be trained for incidents like these. Sending people off to see if it still hurts the next day can be fine with some injuries (waiting another day to mend a broken bone doesnt make much of a difference), but with things like these they should at least have attempted some kind of diagnosis.

As for pressing charges: that's only going to take a lot of time, will not heal your eyes, and seems unlikely to yield anything unless you suffered permanent injury - lets hope it doesnt come to the latter!

I am actually going to a specialist today. Will Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Supposidly one of the best in the country, I hope. The grey dot has not gone away and its been almost 2 days now.... My brain is adjusting to it so I can read better now with both eyes open than yesterday, where everything was a blurr unless i read with just my undamaged right eye. I really am annoyed by this tho, people shouldnt mess around with lasers without safety equipment and never let people who know nothing about them handle them as in the case of my sorta friend.

yesterday the dot i see was purely grey on all color surfaces, now the dot changes color ussually to match what ever surface its not, tho still covers up words. Right now its grey b/c of the forum color. My background is blue however and the dot is hardly noticable looking at it. Also if I get real close to the monitor the dot gets so small i can read fine with my left eye, but i mean really close eye to screen almost. I believe the damage I sustained to my left eye is in the Macula and/or Fovea region of the back of the eye mostly used for fine detail focusing and reading..... Sigh! Atleast there is no physical pain, which id rather have b/c it means i would have had damage to the outter eye which heals by itself. I may press charges against the person that did it to me, but it was an accident and all my friends have to either side with me or them... so a big drama will ensue. ya I dont wanna really waste money on lawyers and etc..

Ghosty, I'm really sorry to hear what happened That's always my biggest fear: that permanent (sounds like it in your case) eye damage that would result from a direct hit. If the kid was wearing goggles, I would certainly press charges. What the hell was he thinking? Further, if you press charges, you *will* win, and then the damages awarded to you could certainly pay for your lawyer costs, medical bills, etc.

I didn't catch it was an accident, but he should have known better than be this reckless. At least tell him in detail how you eye is doing and that you may have a permanent blind spot. Then he'll learn not to do that again.
You'd have to wait to know how your sight is affected and if it's worth the drama of law stuff.

Went to the Eye specialist Hospital today (pupils still dilated forgive spell errors) and got 5 hours of tests and some pretty cool pictures of my eyes are getting emailed to me.. Ill post the damage (as soon as I get pic's emailed to me) so you can see what its like to get hit with a 200mw'ish green laser in the eye... The doc's seem to think ill heal within 2 weeks, tho I am not getting my hopes up.. They claim im the 4th person ever to be seen for laser realted issueat this particular hospital.

As I suspected from online readings all doc confirmed the damage I sustained to my left eye is in the Macula and/or Fovea region of the back of the eye mostly used for fine detail focusing and reading and cannot be healed with any medications/drops... Not even laser eye surgery can fix it but i still have 20/22 vision apparently... So Still can drive and read and etc with both eyes.. Thankgod. Hope it clears up tho.. 3 days now im seeing color in the spot instead of just grey/black.

The doctor pretty much said what you said Bluefan, I should wait to see if it heals before taking any legal action, and he jokingly said i should bring the kid in to get some free laser eye surgery "as revenge"
