Hiho, just read the OP and a few pages of responses. I'm glad you and you eye are (more or less) okay, and that you'll still be able to see things. I just found one thing kind of strange; you claimed to be hit in the eye for a full second? Or was that something you typed in a rush and probably in a bit of panic? Lets not make mistakes here, a flash of a laser like that already makes your eye sustain enough damage, but should't you have blinked or moved your head away much sooner than that?

It probably seemed like a second to him. But your right he probably blinked before that.

After how calm his first response was about the incident, it seems almost plausible that exposure was longer than we'd expect from instant blink "OH MY EYE" reflexes. Maybe he was making a grab for it to steady it.

Yeah, maybe it wasn't a full second. It was, however, right as the laser began to fall, so it felt like it was going in slow motion... 
And maybe I only seemed calm in the text. I was actually quite freaked out at the time, lol.

How big of a blind spot do you have?
Is it much bigger than your natural blind spot?
Where is it in your field of vision? (in a place where you other eye is able to correct it?)

This is my best attempt to draw the size, shape, and location of it. It's actually a little smaller than I could draw it. It's hard to draw something you can't look directly at....
It's really not as bad as you might think from the drawing. I don't even notice it unless i only look out of that one eye.

So is it pretty much static at this point or do you find yourself compensating for it? I have LED damage in one eye (no, not laser -- LED, from an experiment where I 'slipped' while examining a Nichia blue LED die at threshold with a loupe years ago) - it happened 10 years ago, and it seems to me (i think) that the spot is better than it was 5 years ago.
Slow progress, but progress nonetheless. I used to notice it all the time (again even 5 years ago) - now I really have to look for it, and even then sometimes it's hard to find. It's become more of a blur and less of a dark spot.
(Note, on more and more LED devices you'll see 'Class I, II, III' etc markings - similar to lasers. Coherent light is a cruel mistress, but LEDs are no slouch these days. Take a look at some of the Phlatlight threads here if you think LEDs can't punch a hole through your meat. Photons is photons. )

Well, looking at that I think you're lucky the blind spot isn't in the center of your eye. I think that if it was, you'd really notice, because you'd be unable to read with that eye. Luckily, the brain has ways to compensate for blind spots in the eye. It may be a harsh thing to say, but you sure woke everyone up here, and this should mean at least something to the new guys flailing around with their new 1k+ Watt laser.

Ya, I have an unusual blind spot in one eye, not from lasers, i just have crapy eyes...
anyway ya, I can't even notice it unless i close one eye and "look for it"
Have you had a Field of Vission test done yet? If you have them done every now and then you will be able to tell if you vision is getting better a little more precisely.

I think the answer to this is yes. I had a test in which I stared at some crosshairs in a machine and they lit up small dots at different locations to find out where my blind spot was.

Sir, you surely have earned a gold medal for being calm this whole time. I would probably have died from a heart attack with the thought that I would have to carry a blind spot with me prolly for the rest of my life.
