Question Help with my safety glasses

Hi, I recently purchased some 650nm safety goggles from zonestealth. I have a lpc815 diode that went LED and I'm ordering another one, but when i look at the blown diode through the safety goggles it looks the same as without. so i hope that when i get the new diode the glasses will protect me. does the nm change when a diode goes LED? or do the glasses just not work?

Thanks

When a laser diode led's what happens is that there is not enough feedback anymore for a mode to get above threshold, usually because the facets are damaged. Then ony spontaneous emission and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) remains, but this is of a wider spectrum, probably wide enough to have wavelengths not covered by the goggles. That could explain why it would attenuate the laser properly but lets some light through of the dead red diode.

Kind of late but the LPC diodes were found to lase at about 658nm.

As jeffrythe00 said, take a picture (or several)
One pic of the laser on a white surface, and one pic (with the goggles held infront of the camera lens) of the laser dot on the same white surface. Also, a pic of the goggles themselves may help.

We can't see the pictures. But, if you can burn black rubber after you pass the laser beam through the glasses, I can assure you that your glasses do not provide sufficient eye protection against the laser. Very bad.

So assuming your laser is lasing at 200mw and even if your glasses are blocking 60% of the light.... then you could be getting up to 80mw of back reflections... which is NOT how safety glasses work.... you need to block enough light to bring the laser light to a safe level..... if your burning thing things through it then you might as well use sun glasses... WHICH is NOT what you do.... I would not use your laser without glasses and DEFINITELY throw those in the garbage.... I suggest if you are insistant on using your laser.... which I would not do till you can. buy a proper pair..... To hold a camera or other device over your eyes.... Like a cell camera with a LCD..... don't look through a cheapo camera from the dollar store.... Please make sure you use your laser safely.... Don't do anything That you might regret.

Thanks,
Jeff

Yes. Those glasses will work perfectly. Make sure you buy the ones that cover the correct wavelength.
