"HOWEVER as i mentioned above you can buy a cheap IR filter and epoxy it to the front of your laser and solve this problem"

How much those filters are, where I could get them? And do they decrease laser power?

I'm thinking about getting laser and using it just to point around at the sky till I get more money for eagle pair goggles.By the way how to use that discount on those glasses?

P.S. I see you 're changing and becoming helpful and honest now, thanks for help.

EDIT:Just found out how to use discount, but shipping will cost me 25$

the discount works and they have an international site Survival Laser International Home

as far as the filter, it will decrease the output since its blocking the IR. only the true green output will now come out.

you can get them HERE (the ones for 532nm that block IR are clear/blue/purple-ish. the red one is for red lasers and the black blocks everything but IR) or HERE

How do I mount those filters to my laser? And does IR filter affect laser visibility?
P.S. http://www.o-like.com/index.php?main...roducts_id=128
This filter isn't for green laser,is it? because it says 808nm?Or is it IR wavelength?

P.S. I see you bought laser from lazerer,do they add those caps for protecting lens from dusting?

Default Re: Help me choose goggles

most IR filters are like this:
532nm high transmittance,>97.5%
808nm transmittance<2%
1064nm transmittance<2%
let 97.5+ of 532 through and less than 2% of IR through.

No you cant use the dust cap on these lasers but i just keep mine inside the bubble wrap bag in a gun case then inside a gun safe bolted to the floor. no one will steal my lasers!!!!!

since IR is invisible it wont effect visibility at all. mounting you can either epoxy it to the front focus adapter if you get the large circular filter or if you get the small square filter you can remove the focus adapter and epoxy it, CAREFULLY, inside the laser

Default Re: Help me choose goggles

I think I have PMed you FatalaS about goggles, but again
your BEST bet are these since they block your wavelength AND IR. (edit except 808)
Eagle PairŪ 190-540nm & 800-2000nm Laser Safety Goggles

I use the cheap uvex because my blue laser in NOT DPSS so I don't have to worry about IR
*I also got two incase I show it off and when I do close stuff I just double them.
HOWEVER you DO have to worry about IR if you get goggles that don't cover both, because although it blocks green the IR will pass RIGHT THOUGH and deep fry your eyes.

"Well not to beat a dead horse but if you searched this forum you'd find that lazerer lasers dont have IR filters"

Just wondering why lazerer sells only goggles which don't protect from IR...

Default Re: Help me choose goggles

they are made in china so they can get them SUPER cheap, probably only a few Yen if that much and turn around and sell them at killer profits. if they offered glasses that protected against IR then they'd have to buy them from other countries and import them so the cost would be high and probably couldnt compete with the prices already out there. china also isnt the best place to buy quality products so even if they did sell IR glasses i wouldnt trust them. at least the eagle pair are OD certified so i can trust the testing done on them

EDIT: to clarify the quality products comment: china doesnt have as strict of regulations or any on many of their products so they can claim something is OD7 when in reality it is only OD2. eagle pair and the glasses in my thread are 3rd party tested and approved. they are tested by both customers and in the case of eagle pair and thor labs, they have to follow certain laws and regulations to get the OD rating approved. Uvex isnt OD approved but they have been tested by members to work

While there is often a significant component of IR in those cheapo green lasers, I would concentrate more on protecting yourself from the green as most of the power is in that wavelength and the IR diverges quite a bit.

Ain't that the truth. For a while I had more more money sinked into goggles than lasers. Now it's about parity. You can't buy new eyes though. Bad enough that (decent) Lasik is $3000 for a pair.

FatalaS, although I'm not the best at doing this, try to research at least a little bit before asking questions. Sometimes the search feature isn't always helpful and what I like to do is google my question, normally one of the top results is from LPF.

Looking at all this safety talk, I think I'm going to get an Eagle Pair before I get my next laser, not sure how good my Laserlands goggles are.

Also, I think Blord still sells some pretty good goggles for about $20, I think you have to PM him.

those glasses look like the iffy chinese ones ive been talking about. if you dont want to splurge for the eagle pair then there is a member selling glasses in the BST section. iirc they were like $12 and did a pretty good job. apparently shipping kills you foreigners

Those red goggles work fine for greens -- almost too well. Too well because it's such a pain to see anything with them on. I'd get something better with an orange filter if you can.
