im curious to here how many of you all have accidently hurt your eyes before. if so, what was the power of the laser you were using? i'd be interested to hear what exactly happened and how it felt.

have any of you all hurt your eyes while using goggles (e.g. the beam went in from a weird angle)?

This is a really interesting topic as I have heard at least one story on WL about an eye injury, can't remember who it was, but someone got blasted in the eye with a 200mw red. They had a permanent mark in there vision. I will try to find out who it was.
I have been fortunate, I did once get my leadlight 15mw shone in my eyes, from fairly close range directly in, but I have no permanent damage. I think I may have just been lucky though....

i believe it was retsam real, somthing to do with his dog or somthing....

i have never got hit directly in the eye, but i have been flashblined one or two times, youll get a headache for an hour, wont be able to focus on anything, and youll be sensitive to light, then it just kinda goes away. thats happened from 100+mw off a white wall from 10 feet away, you gotta be careful!

i like my glasses, they seem to have a od of about 4 for the red pair and about 6 for the greenies. i have red laser enhanceing ones and visiball glasses for the pulsar. they do a great job and cover more of your face than the wicked glasses, and a lot cheaper ;D

if you wanna be 100% sure, go with wickeds goggles for the greenies, i wouldnt get there red goggles, they block too much red light. wickeds goggles purchesd without a laser are still close to the best deal around, and you can pick up a dragon case at the same time! ;D

Yeah, thats what I remember too, something about his dog hitting the switch while he was setting up an experiment, and getting the thing straight in the eye. I think the laser was the 200mw PGL. Have you heard what ended up happening, did he see a doctor?

I got a headache when my was shone in my eyes, I was really worried that it had done more damage, like thing looked funny colors, and out of focus, I thought I had done some real damage. Fortunately in a couple hours it was back to normal, and now my eyes are fine.

Wow, I just read that, that should make people think twice. That must be so annoying to have a patch of blurriness in you vision. I must have been very lucky as I got a 15mw in my eye and it did no damage. wow.

i blasted myself in the eye with a unknown strength IR laser from a CD burner. i was building the IR laser for fun and using the "nightshot mode" on my camcorder to "see" the beam on the screen, which was pretty cool btw, and i don't actually remember hurting my eye but all of the sudden i got a splitting headache and pain in my eyes, and that lasted for a few hours.

when i first got my 35 mw greenie, i had never seen a strong alser pointer before and just turning it on in the dark (first time i ever turned it on) hurt my eyes for 20 or so minutes, the walls were white and i knew it was bright, but i didn't understand what "bright" meant until then. lol.

I wasn't wearing goggles, but I definitely hurt my eyes with a laser. See my topic for more.

However, all of us with the bad experience but not cause a permanent damage should cherish that. We donot leave laser alway tomorrow, next year, even till old. That's only a lesson for us  . Your guys only come through but cannot understand how a 5mw also can damage you ;)

Hello,

Now in my 40's, I have have had alot of damage over the years.
Welding has flash-blinded me a bunch of times for days.
(I am an idiot)
I have had damage from cut lenses, flash-burns, flying metal, glass and plastics embedded into my eye, (Usually always my left eye!) glass and trash from stunt driving accidents, as well as a partial detached retina from a high impact crash, So I have not been very easy on them.
(or my body at 30+ broken bones, 4 vertebre fractured, 8 discs, etc, etc, thus my disabled status now)
I have even survived a lightning strike in 1990 which hurt my eyes for days! (As well as my whole body)  ;D

(Again, I am an idiot, so don't try that at home!)

(On a side note, if you hear the bang, lightning missed you, if you see the flash, but hear nothing and wake up 15ft. from where you were standing, then it got ya!)
    :p    ;D        :p    ;D
As for lasers, I have expeienced flash-burn for a day or two from not wearing protection while taking a reflection or just looking too close on a burn project.
I was tested the s-ky pgl-200 for hours the other day and the reflections coming off the sensor head were illuminating the side of my face.
Didn't think much of it at the time.
I guess it was a bit much for my right eye, which has been a bit hazy for a day or two now, but getting better.

So Be Careful!  ;)

Don't be a Joe and damage yourself like this for no good reason!

Always use protection!
;D    ;D    ;D    ;D

I just thank God that He gave me a good stronge pair, even if they don't work correctly now.
I have some shadow vision effects now and I can't use binoculars due to the different perception form one eye to the other, but I still see everything!

Thanks,
Joenobody
