I bought a 1watt 445nm blue spartan from dragon lasers. One night was at my desk burning stuff(YES i had my goggles on always! after i was done i took of the goggles and noticed a small melted area on the left lens of the goggles!! since you cant see anything but the dot, i got hit by a reflection i think but the goggles totally protected my eyes!! so ppl, goggles are replaceable yur eyes aren't! a very valuable lesson learned!!

What were you burning a mirror? I doubt the burn mark was from the laser. Maybe a defect in the plastic?

That doesn't make any sense... usually burning means either burning or melting something, the distorted surface of what you're melting wouldn't be able to redirect enough light back at your face to melt goggles, melted surfaces usually diverge light quite easily. Even with a 1W laser it shouldn't have melted the glasses, not even melting solder an inch from your face should do that...

sounds strange to me too, I have tested mine, as ZRaffleticket implies, on the corner of the lens. blocks most of the light and negates damage from direct hits to eye, but still melts lens

In my experience, if there is enough light hitting your goggles to start burning them, YOU'LL KNOW that you're getting hit. I had a 1.5W go across my field of view wearing goggles, and the laser focused to infinity. No freaking way you don't notice it.
Don't believe me? Get a ~445 led, and shine it at yourself while wearing goggles.

Wow a laser melting your lens without even you knowing is something unbelievable. The only logical explanation is that the goggles had that defect in the first place.... but anyways please continue wearing goggles when working with lasers.
