That is disgusting. (I miss vomitting emoticon here.) Well, it seems everywhere in the world people holding power (in politics especially) are those who do not understand how to use it wisely. Hopefully they will become more smart enough before pushing legitimate users into illegality. Best of luck US based laserists.

It is similar here, Alex. It is a bit of negative consequence of democracy IMO. I'm not saying democracy is a bad thing, just that it has also cons. Still gaussian curve applies not only to TEM00 power distribution, but also to popullation and inteligence distribution, therefore many people just do not see the populism of some polititians (what is often the only thing they can offer) and vote for them. In history there were cases where power in one hand was better and worse than democratic system, unfortunatelly I'm aware of more cases when it was worse and some even catastrophic with whole world influenced. All was depending on the emperor, if he/she was wise and doing the best for people or misusing his/her power.

And I'm sorry I did not noticed date of OP, I knew it was considered earlier in US, but I thought they pulled this stupid law out again now...
