FAA Launches Website In Ongoing Fight To End Laser Strikes On Aircraft

Don't think there's much on there we don't already know..

Probably not, but the fact that the FAA is encouraging citizens to report seeing lasers fired at aircraft is interesting.

Perhaps this action is mostly intented to dramatically increase the number of reported incidents so they have leverage to push for legislation later on.

An interesting paragraph from their "Laser Hazards In Navigable Airspace" document:

Federal Aviation Administration researchers have compiled
a database containing more than 3,000 reports of aircraft
laser illumination events over a 20-year period. These
reports describe the illumination of military and civilian
aircraft by lasers, including law enforcement and medical
evacuation flights. No accidents have been attributed to
the illumination of crewmembers by lasers, but given the
sizeable number of reports and debilitating effects that can
accompany such events, the potential does exist.


3000 incidents over 2 decades without causing any accident is a pretty decent track record. Statistically, i suppose they would spending their efforts better on pushing a ban on birds.
